SINCERE
"Did you know, Elsie, that you cannot fake sincerity?" Keima asked out of the blue. It was a very rare sight, Keima with his chin on his palm, not even holding a console, and just staring wistfully at the people that passed him by. Elsie was worried for his "older brother"; he had been in a somber mood since breakfast and would only replied with a curt "yes" when asked if he was alright. He had also been quiet and although he wasn't exactly talkative in the first place, it was still strange for him to not say anything on their way to school or not snap a sarcastic retort when Nikaido-sensei noticed his behavior and teased him for it.
Hearing him finally talk was a relief, although what he had said didn't exactly register in her mind immediately. She let go of the breath she unconsciously held when she finally opened her mouth and voiced her confusion. "Is that true, Kami-nii-sama?"
Keima didn't reply, still staring at the people that passed by. At some point, Elsie spotted some of their conquests – Takahara Ayumi, Kosaka Chihiro, Guido Yui, Nakagawa Kanon– and she greeted them enthusiastically as they did with her. She watched as a small bout of emotion passed through Keima's eyes with each one of them, an emotion that Elsie had never seen before, or noticed as it seemed like it had always been there, lying behind the cold and calculating expression that he always wore.
And then she understood, because sincerity cannot be faked and even though Keima was a "god", he was also human. And with his circumstances, through all the conquests, he was the only one who remembered, and thus he was the only one who got hurt.
She understood, so she let him have that one day, when he finally dropped his defenses and show how he hurt and maybe when they get home she can convince him to actually let go, to let it all out, and to finally cry. Because she knew that only when he has expressed all of the hurt and despair will he be able to move on and love again.
