Life is a mystery. Wrapped up in the lust for Olivia Ryan and adoration of comfort and normality, Landon Crane could not ever have expected that Massie Block would ever attend Prom with the date of Chris Abeley. Not only was he Olivia's ex-boyfriend, but he was a senior. Olivia was clearly jealous of Massie's being able to walk down the senior walk, but Landon was blind to such flaws until it was right in front of his face. Olivia was selfish and stupid, but so so gorgeous and so so perfect. Conflicting thoughts swarmed his mind. He couldn't help but notice Massie's sensual beauty, which had been exponentially growing since their break up 6 months ago, and how the thought of her playing lacrosse turned him on, and how seeing her together with Chris burned in his mind and stung like bad sun burn. Seeing her with the Prom ticket in her hand and that gorgeous smile on her face flashed through his mind, but like usual he shook the thoughts away and continued to praise Olivia like normal.

She came to visit Chris every day after school, passing him and Olivia on her way there. Olivia glared and would say something about how Massie only liked Chris because she dated him. Landon had to wonder the same exact thing. Merely six months ago, Olivia had been with Chris and he had been with Massie. Now it seemed the tables were turned. After cruelly breaking Massie's heart, she had found someone new, and not just another hot boytoy that she picked up. She had found someone she truly liked. He knew from her eyes. They lit up at his presence... just like they used to when she was with him.

Landon couldn't help but notice how her birthday party was a hit and how she smiled more and how she had more friends. He couldn't help but notice how much happier she was. She wasn't supposed to be happier and yet she was. She had lost weight, her hair was kept in perfection condition, she looked good every day, and she laughed. She looked genuinely happy. He couldn't remember her looking that way since last year, when he had first asked her out. And now here it was again, except this time it wasn't because of him.
;;
She looked gorgeous. Her eyes sparkled and her hair shimmered and her body was flawless and her smile had never been bigger. She was the most beautiful girl in all of prom. Olivia couldn't even compare. She looked like a model or a movie star, something of the sort. She was too perfect for words. Visions of her in his arms, and their soft and sweet, yet passionate kisses flashed through his mind. But at next view, it was Chris' arms that held her and Chris' lips that touched her soft, slightly full ones. Jealousy enveloped him. He couldn't get her off his mind…
;;
Olivia had slithered over to Chris, attempting to make flirtatious conversation with Chris. Olivia seemed to think that every boy was hers, just a little toy that she could play with whenever she pleased. Chris swiftly avoided and ignored her. The spell was broken. Landon couldn't even deny it: Massie was the girl he wanted.
;;
Sadly, it was too late. He lost her forever. She was his. Nothing replayed in his mind more than the breakup, the mistake. It was funny, because in the beginning Massie was the one hurting and watching the one she loved love someone else. And now it was him hurting. Life is a mystery. Landon could have never fathomed that this would happen. Massie ended up happy and perfect while his crumbled down.

Massie couldn't help but smile:
A tear was slithering its way down Landon Crane's face and Olivia was single.
Karma's a bitch.
