Doctor Herbert Edgar Wyndham stood before his two volunteers. Doctor Wyndham's protégé, Doctor Abraham Cornelius, stood over them with a syringe in his hand. Victor and James Howlett had been restrained on operating tables, for their safety and the doctor's.
"Now, you are aware of the risks of this procedure?" inquired Doctor Wyndham. The brothers looked at each other and nodded.
"We're ready doc." said James.
"So hurry it up will ya?" added Victor. Doctor Wyndham nodded to Cornelius, who injected each of the brothers with the most recent serum. Then the two doctors retreated to safety in another room, as the room was flooded with a pale green gas.
James was the first to have a reaction. As the gas entered his system and interacted with the serum he began to have increasingly violent seizures. Victor followed soon after. Then the gas was cut off and the two were exposed to a burst of energy from the recently discovered Negative Zone. The two gradually settled down and lay still.
"Vital signs show that they're alive." said Doctor Cornelius. Doctor Wyndham nodded.
"The question is their mental condition. They're no good if they're like Subject Zero."
