Disclaimer I don't own the little mermaid
Triton was furious with Ariel; this was the tenth time he had caught her going to the surface and he was getting tired of lecturing her. "Honestly Sebastian I don't know what I am going to do with her!" he shouted to his crab advisor as he was sitting beside him. "Don't worry your majesty, you'll find a way I know you will." Said Sebastian in a reassuring voice, "We just need to try something different dat's all."
"Maybe I can be of assistance." Said a voice from the palace hall. Triton looked up to see Charles the Clown fish who was the court jester to the king. Many years ago Triton had found the poor fish trying to steal food from the royal kitchen (albeit, in the most comical way possible) and instead of killing him or arresting him the king asked Charles for a job in the palace as court jester, feeling that a little humor could fill up the monotony of the palace. Over time the little clown fish was a palace favorite ranking just below Sebastian as the kings most trusted advisor. "Oh hello Charles, I don't need humor today." Said Triton slightly sighing in despair.
"Maybe not your majesty but it looks like you need advice on a certain daughter with red hair." Said Charles instinctively, this was not the first time he had heard a talk about Ariel.
"It's just I don't know what I am going to do!" said King Triton in despair "I'm at my wits end, every time I set rules out and tell her how bad the humans are she runs off and try's to find human things like thingamajiggers and whatchamacallits and doohickeys and all sorts of objects I don't know the names of…What are you laughing at Charles this is serious!" Roared Triton Furiously, Charles was giggling his head off, he knew what all those things were and was laughing that they had been called that, but he remembered how foul a mood the king was in and to laugh in the kings presence when he was like this was asking for death by trident. "sorry sir I was thinking of a good joke to tell later at dinner" lied Charles, "I think I know what your problem is your majesty, Ariel has way too much free time on her hands…." Before he could finish Sebastian swept in and shouted "Dat's just what I have been saying Man! She needs to be monitored constantly and…"
"What I was going to say before I was rudely interrupted…" said Charles glaring at Sebastian, "is that you need to give her a job or two in the palace." Triton looked at his Jester and friend with an "I'm listening" look. "You know…" Said Charles, "give her some responsibility to keep her out of trouble, with a little free time but not too much, Plus with all due respect Your Highness you can spend more time with her."
Triton fixed Charles with a gaze and said "but what about the Atlantica, I have to preform kingly duties" "Your Highness that what you've got Advisors and Administrators for, we can handle things here, right Sebastian" Charles looked at Sebastian who felt there was merit in the clown fishes idea " Exactly your majesty, Have we ever steered you wrong?" Triton finally conceded with a smile. "Your absolutely right you two"
"Of course we are" said Sebastian swelling with pride.
"Ariel needs more responsibility in her life"
"Exactly" said Charles with the same pride
"And I myself need to spend more time with her"
"Dat's Da Ticket your Majesty" said Sebastian
"Excuse me you two I need to have a word with her and tell her things are going to be different from now on that I am a brand new king!" and on that note Triton swam off to his daughter's bedroom to talk to her. Sebastian looked at the corridor then at Chalres and smiled. "Another Plan Perfectly executed" said Charles. "I know Man, What would da king do without us." Said Sebastian as they walked back to the throne room. "He'd be having very high blood pressure." Said Charles, and the two friends laughed.
