The sensation of falling is one most people cannot explain. Its unique in itself. The fear grips your heart, tangles it in its web, holding it and tightening as you get closer to the ground. At the same time, a rush of adrenaline rushes through your veins. Hitting each part of you, waking it up. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you know this will make the end of the fall all the more painful.
The last thing he remembered was Axel's smiling face. He could still see it in his mind's eye as he plummeted toward the ground. Seconds before he would hit, he wasn't thinking about his life or his parents, the things he did that made it fun. He was thinking of that smug smiling face, laughing at the top of the clock tower. He knew he would hit any second. His back would smack onto the cement, the pain would be unimaginable, his head next, and that would be it. But he still couldn't get that smile out of his head.
There was something about Twilight Town in the summer that made them love coming here. After an assignment they would eat some weird ice cream called "sea salt". Axel always made jokes about how salty it was, he'd nudge Roxas in the ribs and wink.
The sunset was beautiful. Axel described it as, "A raspberry-orange smoothie. The way the red and orange mixed together like that. You gotta try one Roxas. So yummy."
The mission that day was long and stressful. They were quietly watching the sunset. Roxas was slouching, his ice cream melting untouched. He was staring at the ground, replying the events over in his head. "He'll be mad. We didn't do what we should have."
"He can shove it, at least we tried." Axel retorted.
"Listen kid, you gotta snap out of it." He slapped him on the back, jolting him up.
They shared a laugh.
"Finish your ice cream, you don't wanna waste it."
Roxas sighed, looking back down, "I don't really want it. Not in the mood."
They sat in silence for a while, the sun was past the horizon and a blue-black was setting in the high sky.
Axel stood up, pushed himself off his legs, "We gotta get you out of this mood." He shook a finger at Roxas, like he was reprimanding him.
He stared off into the distance and threw his arms out.
"KINGDOM HEARTS!"
Roxas burst out laughing. Axel followed.
"Who next? Oh oh how about Larxene?"
The mocked their coworkers together till it was dark. The sun was completely gone past the horizon.
Roxas was finishing up a terrible impression of Luxord, he was watching Axel smile and laugh.
Even when happy he looked so smug.
They knew they could always count on each other when they were down. Friends till the end.
Roxas bowed, making Axel laugh even more. He slipped, lost his footing.
Before he knew it, he was falling off the clock tower.
And the last thing he could remember was Axel's smiling face.
