Prologue
The words pounded into my head as I ran, blinded by hot tears. I ran frantically through the forest getting hopelessly lost as I tripped over every branch, every leaf, every rut, every stone, that lay in my path.
'I don't want you to come with me.'
I tripped again and this time, when I hit the ground, barely feeling the sting from my already injured hands scrapping the ground, I did not bother to try to get up.
'It'll be as though I never existed.'
His words replayed themselves in my head like a broken tape. Over and Over. Again and Again. All I could hear was his hateful tone, his hurtful words. I saw his face, starring at me. Aloof. Uncaring. Unloving. Topaz eyes stared at me from behind my eyelids. Haunting me whenever I shut my eyes, if only to blink.
'Time heals all wounds for your kind'
Forget. Forgetting would be merciful. Ignorance truly could be bliss. I crawled to the base of a nearby tree, not feeling the painful stinging of my scraped palms and knees. The smell of the blood was making me nauseous. I welcomed the feeling. Anything to help me forget. Anything to take my mind off of the gaping hole that had been ripped in my chest.
I slowly drifted of to sleep. The noises of the forest lulling me to sleep combined with my own emotional exhaustion were a concoction worthy of a sleeping draught. The green world of the forest faded to reveal the blackness of a dreamless yet uneasy sleep.
