Dear Iroh,
This kind of burst from the nether regions of my brain at 11 pm so I decided to go with it, just a letter from Ursa to Iroh, nothing romantic intended, or implied. It's set while Iroh is in Ba Sing Se and just gives a little depth to their sister/brother in law relationship, including the fact that they're the only semi peaceful people in the Fire Nation it seems.
Dear Iroh,
It's been strange for me, not having you here to curb Ozai's temper, or just be down the hall to sit and drink a cup of tea with and reminisce. Like remember the first time I ever came to the palace? For that fire nation ball, I can't even remember what it was for anymore, celebrating some number of years this war had been going on or something like that. All I remember is Azulon commanding little 6 year old Ozai to dance with me, but halfway through the dance he tripped and fell, then ran off the floor. There I was trying so hard to make a good impression on the Fire Lord like my parents told me too, scared out of my wits because my dance partner had just run off. And then you come out of the crowd gave me a big bow, and swept me off my feet. You have no idea how grateful I was to you that day. Sometimes I even wish we could go back to those times, where, Ozai was just a little weak, and the war didn't rule our lives and families, at least not as far as I knew.
Zuko misses you and Lu Ten, but I have no idea what to do with Azula, she simply runs wild with her new friends from the academy. Ozai treats her almost like an adult. But if I try to treat her her age she gets upset and then we're all really in trouble. She has a temper like her father's to say the least
There is definite unrest here. I just wish I could have an actual conversation with someone who really cares. I'll do my duty as Fire Lady, and laugh and chat with the other noble ladies, but the whole thing is just getting to be such a heavy load to bear. Ozai's moods are getting darker and more unpredictable than ever, he's treated even more like a God than ever around here, but because people are scared not just in awe of him. Maybe you could talk some sense into him; he seems to listen to you at least. I hope you take down Ba Sing Se soon, so I will know that our whole family, including Lu Ten and you are safe.
Love,
Ursa
