A/N: So, this is my first attempt at fanfiction, as well as my first attempt at fiction in general since about 10 years ago, and it is a completely different writing style than what I am used to. I have no beta, so I apologize for any mistakes. It has the potential to be more than a one-shot, but I can't promise anything. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I find it strange, really. After all that has happened, you still chose to return to the one place we cannot keep you safe. Just the name of it scorches the tongue. That kingdom is a formidable opponent to even the most powerful of us, it's morality more twisted, and certainly more shrouded in secrecy than the darkest of our kind. The darkness in us is only fueled by his majesty's hatred. Every day we grow more sick, more tired, more weak, but mostly we grow desperate. Desperation drags wickedness out of even the pure - to survive.

Survive is what you nearly didn't do. How can you find it in yourself to forgive him? Betrayal should still be coursing through your veins, replacing the arsenic he had you swallow. The arsenic that nearly took your spark from us. Our one glittering glimpse of hope for the revival of our people. You really do shine to those gifted with magick of the old world, you know. Like a beautiful flame, you dance in our eyes, always bright and energetic. We can sense you, in every moment. We felt it. All of us. The moment your spark was nearly extinguished. We felt the blow to our hearts, and wept hard. Your sister will be forever rewarded for acting quickly enough to bring your radiance back into us.

But still you return.

To accept a drink from him was a silly mistake on your part, but how were you to know? He was just a simple servant. One who knew too much. One you knew too little about. But now you have seen that he is not to be trusted. His knowledge of who you are, behind the facade of a weak maiden, is dangerous. It must be erased. I only wish I could end him, the way he tried to end you. Slower, perhaps. More painful. Yes, that's the way he must go. There is no amount of agony too great for the pain he caused you, for the fear I saw in your eyes as you realized his true nature, for the helplessness I felt at not being able to reach you, protect you. That, too, is on him. As I lie in waiting, watching from afar, I regain strength every day. Soon enough, he will pay. And I will help you rise above that despicable kingdom, to your glorious destiny. Our light. Our saviour. Our queen.

And so I wait, as you return.
