Chapter 1: The Wail in the Tale
"Ash, I would really appreciate if you could deliver this little guy to the Officer Jenny who runs the Pokemon Preserve at Mount Silver. Since the Johto League Silver Conference will be held there, it won't be too far out of your way. An egg was stolen from a female tyranatar by Team Rocket, and that's how this larvatar got separated from its mother. Officer Jenny says that the tyranatar parent is on a violent rampage against humans there. It is our hope that reuniting the pokemon parent and child will restore peace at the Preserve."
Ash silently considered the infant pokemon. Larvatar was a small, gray-green pokemon with black diamonds scattered on its back. It stood on two feet and had a stumpy tail. It had a pointy head that almost resembled a crown. It's black eyes were filled with fear as it looked back at Ash, Misty, and Brock.
Filled with a desire to comfort the scared pokemon, Ash started to move closer--"Laaaaar!" Larvatar wailed, then emitted a loud, high-pitched noise. Ash was frozen by the jarring sound, and he raised his hands to his ears. He looked around and saw that the others had done the same.
After a few minutes, when Larvatar ran out of breath, the wail stopped. Larvatar was now hiding behind Professor Elm's legs. Everyone let out a sigh of relief and dropped their hands to their sides. "Larvatar's screech attack. It does that when it gets startled. And since it's been severely traumatized from the kidnapping, that happens a lot," Professor Elm explained to Ash and his friends.
Definitely not an easy task to complete, Ash thought to himself. First, the journey to Mount Silver would take weeks of walking. Then, Brock had already mentioned that the wild pokemon in that area reached very high levels because few pokemon trainers ventured there. As such, they were dangerous if startled into battle. And Larvatar's intense fear of humans could be a problem as well.
Professor Elm heaved a mental sigh as Ash considered his request. Ash deeply loved pokemon, and he usually did everything he could to save them from being stolen or mistreated, but he had the upcoming Johto League Silver Conference competition to think about.
All Professor Elm could do was ask...Ash himself had to decide whether or not he wanted to make the journey to Mount Silver with Larvatar under his protection.
