This takes place a few days after Fabian gets cursed. Alfie has de-aged completely and has ceased to exist, and Amber has grown old and...
"Amber's dead," She tells you that morning.
You nod, even though for the life of you you can't remember who Amber is anymore. You want to ask, but the last time you asked her something like that she got all sad and quiet and you don't want to see her like that again.
So you frown and try to look sad and say nothing.
A minute later, though, you've forgotten again and ask her why she's wearing black. "Going to a funeral or something?" You joke, trying to lighten her mood.
She looks at you with tear-filled eyes and starts to cry, and you back away, feeling guilty all of a sudden but not remembering why.
"Who am I?" She asks you after breakfast.
You turn and reply with confidence she doesn't expect. "You're Nina," You say, proudly, because you had written it on the back of your hand so you can't possibly forget.
"What's my last name?" She questions, and your smile falters because you don't remember. You look at the back of your hand, but it's not written there.
"It's Martin," She reminds you, grasping your hands and staring deep into your eyes. "My name is Nina Martin,"
"Nina Martin," You repeat, and beam at her, but she doesn't beam back and you feel sure you've done something wrong.
"Remember, Fabian," She tells you. "It's important."
You nod and fish around for a pen so you can write it on your hand, but then realize you don't remember if Martin starts with a T or a Q so in the end you don't write anything at all.
"It's fine," She tells you when you inform her of this. "I'll write it."
She reaches for your pen, but you've already walked off, unaware you were having a conversation in the first place.
She comes down to get you when you don't come up for supper. "You need to eat, Fabian," She reminds you, and you nod, smiling, not entirely sure what eating entails but willing to go along with whatever she asks.
You both end up eating in her room because you no longer know how to use a fork and she doesn't want to cause suspicion. "This is broccoli," She tells you, pointing to it. "Eat it. It's good for you."
With some coaching you manage to get it into your mouth, but then you spit it back up because it tastes nasty and she ends up spoon-feeding you applesauce instead.
Then she has to undress you and put you into your pajamas because you can't remember how to do it and then she puts you in her bed and sleeps on the floor.
"Goodnight, Fabian," She mutters sleepily.
"Goodnight," You mutter, and freeze, because you can't seem to remember what happens next.
"Fabian?" The girl asks, sensing your mounting terror. "What's wrong?"
You stay quiet.
"Fabian," The girl says, flipping the light back on. "Who am I?"
For some reason the question makes you look at your hand, but all you see is some smudged blue ink across the back of it. You wonder what it was and how it got there.
"Fabian?" The girl tries again. "What's my name?"
"How should I know?" You snap at her, starting to get up and leave the room. "I've never seen you before in my life."
