The Drive

He didn't remember leaving his apartment nor did he remember getting into his car. He didn't know how long he had been driving nor did he know where he was driving to.

All he remembered was she had come to him in his dream. She was beautiful. She looked like an angel all dressed in white. She had smiled, said that she loved him no matter what he had done in the past. She knew he had good inside of him and that he and his sister were destined for great things.

He had asked her how she knew that? She just smiled, kissed him on the forehead and whispered "A mother knows these things" and with that said she was gone.

He had sat up and started to cry. His mother had come to him. He didn't know why his mother had appeared to him tonight, he didn't care why. All he knew was somehow he felt different, like something inside him had changed.

He turned his car down a long tree-lined street he sighed. At least the car knew were he was going he thought. He suddenly pulled into the driveway of one of the well-kept houses. He stopped the car and turned off the engine and sighed. He knew where he was now. After a few minutes he opened the car door, got out and walk up the walkway, and on to the front porch.

He was about to ring the door bell, but stopped. It's late, he may be asleep already. "He's not" came his mother's voice. So he rang the doorbell and waited. Soon the porch light came on and the door opened.

Sydney was woken out of a deep sleep when heard the doorbell ring. He had been reading medical journals and had fallen asleep he looked at the clock on the coffee table. It was midnight and he wondered who could it be at this time of night as he made his way to the front door. Sydney was shocked to see Mr. Lyle standing at his door.

"Mr. Lyle," Sydney said as he opened the door and looked around to see if there were any sweepers.

"I….I'm alone Sydney I…I…" Lyle sighed and looked down at his shoes, " I don't know how to ask this."

"Help him, Sydney," whispered a familiar voice.

Catherine! Thought Sydney smiling, "How can I help you Mr. Lyle?"

Lyle lifted his head and looked Sydney in the eyes. "Sydney I…I had a dream…. and well…she came to me and…" Lyle sighed. "Please, Sydney, tell me about my mother."

Sydney smiled and moved out of the way so Lyle could come inside the house. He took a quick look up and down the street one last time, then smiling he closed the door and turned off the light.
