A/N: it's been a while since I've posted anything... this was a quick little thing I wrote for the RPG I was in. Hope you enjoy.
It was unnaturally quiet tonight in the wizarding prison, the nights usually filled with screams or the rattling breath of the black monstrosities that glided like shadows through the dark corridors of this wretched place. Quiet was rare and the silence was eerie and Bellatrix held her breath, her own respiration seemingly too loud for the silence among the cells that night.
There had been whispers through the cells at night, when the dementors were out of sight, that something was happening beyond the walls of this hell they were prisoners to. Something big and Bella practically threw herself to the bars of her cell to get a good listen. To know what was going on.
The Dark Lord had come back and she knew the instant she heard it that he would be the one to rescue them from this horrid place, just as she knew he would. The devotion of her and her husband and her brother-in-law would not go unrewarded and she would be free, free to do his bidding just as she had waited for.
The minute she heard the news, she began counting the days. She didn't know what she was counting for, she'd lost track of how long they'd been there ages ago, but counting gave her the hope that she had lacked the minute she'd been thrown into the cold, dark cell.
The first explosion came fifteen days after she'd first heard the news. It happened in the cell right next to hers, Rodolphus' cell, jolting her awake one night as the ground shook and the sounds of panic and excitement filled the air as the dust cleared. The second explosion blew apart the cell wall separating her and Rodolphus, rubble flying and hitting her. She shielded her face, before opening her eyes and waiting for the dust from the ancient walls to clear. A crazed cackle erupting from her before carefully stepping over rubble and peering into Rod's cell.
He was on the ground, probably as shaken as she but not nearly as eager seeing as he hadn't moved. She didn't know what she expected to feel when she saw him. Relief? Hope? She knew long before they were even locked up that things between them would have been different but just how different, she didn't know. Not until now.
What she felt for him once was no longer there. The love that once swelled in her chest, had her heart beating in her throat and her mind foggy was gone. There was no sensation through her body. Her mind was clear, her heartbeat didn't change. There was nothing.
She picked him up anyway, steadying him on his feet before she stumbled to the hole in the stone wall, the wind whipping her hair and stinging her face, looking down at the burning sensation in her arm, her mark burning her black into her skin. Yes, now it was time. Her Lord had set them free. She turned, finding Rod looking down at his mark before looking back up at her. She gave him a curt nod before stepping past him and out into the corridor looking for someone else to help her find a way out.
