About the story!

The story is taking place 2 years after Viktor decided to stop coaching Yuuri and go back to skating aka after the end of the anime (first season). I won't follow lot's of thing of the original story so be aware! ^_^

Enjoy!

The Invitation

"Viktor Nikiforov, a Russian skate champion who has won countless competitions, and left us for a year only to return victorious than ever, just announced that he is retiring from professional skating, at the age of 30, to finally settle down next to his beloved fiance, Yuuri Katsuki, Japanese skate champion, and to one day become a coach himself. Even if we don't want to admit that it's time for a pro to retire, we will really miss him…"

Those were the news about Viktor's retirement which became known all over the world in seconds. Fans and admirers started to cry and beg him to not retire like that but to continue to skate for them.

Viktor had long decided that if he was to return again back to professional skating after coaching Yuuri, he would happily retire at 30. He was also thinking of becoming Yuuri's coach again but Yuuri's current coach was more than good so he kept that wish to himself away from his then boyfriend.

"Ne... Viktor? Are you sure you don't want to make your retirement more meaningful?" Yuuri would ask his lover every time he would read the emails from fans from all over the world.

" No no~! All I want is to spend my retirement with you ~!" Viktor would always respond making Yuuri blush and continue read the emails.

But Yuuri couldn't stop feeling weird while reading all those fan mails. He reminded him of two years ago when he and Viktor announced to the media that they were officially together. It was during a worldwide competition where both of them had participated as skaters. The media went crazy and wouldn't stop interviewing them. Lot's of them claimed that they had seen it coming as their relationship was blooming from the time when Viktor was coaching Yuuri. Viktor would only laugh at comments like this and Yuuri would cringe a little. Viktor was as always enjoying every bit of it but Yuuri didn't really want to announce it. He wanted to keep it more private but he couldn't go against Viktor's puppy eyes. Viktor was living for moments like this.

The whole skate world lost it with that announcement along with their fans. Lot's of fans were disappointed when they heard that Viktor Nikiforov found his soul mate, however, they didn't stop supporting them. But from this announcement lot's of reporters started to wonder loudly to the media about the way they would face each other on the ice. They were a couple after all so it was only natural to go easy on each other because they didn't want to hurt each other's feelings. Unfortunately for them, they were proven wrong as both Viktor and Yuuri went all out against each other to the common competitions, but still Viktor would win the gold and Yuuri would be at the second or third place along with Chris or Yurio.

In those two years, they also made significant steps in their relationship such as they moved in together in Japan and they were spending lot's of hours together skating when they didn't have to train for competitions. When they had to enter a competition Victor would return to Russia to train with Yakov and Yuuri would stay in Japan to train with his ballet teacher and a new coach he found from Canada, who, actually, he found Yuuri himself and asked him to train him, so Yuuri gladly accepted as he was in need of a coach asap. Victor and Yuuri decided to train away from each other so they could surprise each other at the competitions with their skills. That was also one of their ways to keep their relationship in high spirits and it was working like a charm.

Yuuri looked at the emails again. The emails they were getting then were a totally different story. Lot's of them were wishing them good luck, others were hateful and others had threats inside of them. Yuuri was worried about Viktor but Viktor would hug him tightly and make him forget his every fear and worry. He loved him so much and he didn't want him to be hurt in any way possible. That is why he was always conscious when they were announcing something. But Viktor was a free spirit. You couldn't just tell him what to do.

But what was done, was done. They only had to accept their destiny and try to be together for as long as they could.

"Ne? Yuuri! Are you going to participate in the next championship?" Victor asked his fiance all of a sudden. Yuuri fixed his glasses and looked at Viktor.

"Yes."

"I see… when are you going back to Japan for training?"

"I am thinking during spring."

"Nice! I will come with you then!" Viktor smiled at him.

"Viktor? What about you coaching in Russia?"

"Eh? I don't want to stay away from you! Those last two years was a torture, you know! You would be in Japan and I would be in Russia and we would meet only twice a month and during the tournaments! But now that I have the chance to be with you, you think that I would let you alone like that?" Viktor pouted disappointed that his fiance didn't want to be with him as much as he wanted. Yuuri's face became all red and his glasses fell on his nose. He lowered his head slowly making Viktor look at him worried. Then he suddenly jumped on Viktor bringing both of them down to the floor.

"Yu-Yuuri?" Viktor asked startled by his sudden action. Yuuri stayed quiet for a while until he stared directly at Viktor's eyes.

"Viktor… stay with me… please…" Yuuri begged him and lean for a kiss which his fiance returned more than happy.

A few months later

Viktor was reading his emails like he usually did every morning during breakfast. He was now living along with Yuuri in Yuuri's hometown, to their own apartment near the skating rink and the sea so Yuuri could continue training for the upcoming competitions.

" Hm? 'Dance for two' ? " Viktor looked at the title interested. He opened the mail and read it excited only to frown afterwards.

" This is ridiculous!" He exclaimed angrily waking up his dog. Yuuri who was in the kitchen came towards him to check up on him. Viktor was holding his phone completely angry and was looking out of the window.

" Vi-Viktor?" Yuuri asked him weakly as he didn't want to bother him.

" They are insane! They know very well that I have retired for months now and they are asking me to compete again! And not only that! I need to have and a partner! And an amateur one! I would love to skate with you but I can't! You also have the Gand Prix in Canada and you have to be 100% concentrate for this! And I have to be with you… no no no…" It was so unfair. He really loved skating with Yuuri and a chance for both of them skating in a competition as a pair would be a nice idea. But here went the chances.

Yuuri blinked and started to giggle.

" Why are you laughing?"

" No... I am just happy to hear that you like skating with me!"

" Of course! I love everything about you! If I didn't I wouldn't be here!" Viktor crossed his arms in front of his chest and nodded continuously to make his point more clear as he was agreeing with himself. Yuuri smiled with a crimson shade across his face.

" Yet it would be a good idea for the last dance Viktor... Can I read the rest of the mail?" Yuri asked him kindly as he sat next to him and got his phone from his hands. Viktor wrapped his arms around him and placed his head at the base of Yuuri's neck.

" Mr. Viktor Nikiforov. My name is Michael Yohanson. I am one of the CEO of the Skate Stars. I bet you know her as we are some of the companies responsible for most of the skating competitions in the world. I am here to invite you to one last skate competition organized entirely by us. But this competition has some rules-" Viktor moaned sadly next to Yuuri's ear and hide more.

" You have to find a partner, male or female, who has never participated or win a medal in Olympics and never wan a medal to an International Competition or Grand Prix. The skater can even be a complete amateur.

The competition would be like a gala and the people would be also voting. More details would be sent later. But for now, you should know that you need to prepare three programs, a short, a long and a story program."

"A story program?" Yuuri blinked a few times and rechecked what he had just read.

"Eh? A story program?" Victor asked surprised. "Hm… I haven't done one since I was little," he said in a bored voice with a little excitement in it.

"What is it?"

"You need to say a story to the audience via your performance. The audience then will try to guess what was the story about. The one who made the audience understand better gets the more points. It's extremely difficult. I remember doing one in Russia. I managed to get them get half of the story. Still, it was disappointing."

Yuuri nodded and continued to read the rest of the mail.

"The competition will take place during Christmas and it will be on for as long as it takes. If you agree you should announce it via the media with the hashtag #SkateStarsCompetition. When you do that you should find a partner and together announce your participation with the same hashtag.

We also set you the list of the rest of the competitors who we have invited to participate.

You have one week to accept. Then you have two weeks to find a partner and accept.

Thank you for your patience.

Best regards"

Viktor looked at Yuuri's troubled expression.

"Yuuri?"

" You know Viktor, I believe that you should accept."

" Eh? Why? I won't be able to skate with you! Plus I will have to leave you to train for this!" Viktor started to complain.

" He is saying that the other skater can even be an amateur. And if you see the other competitors, most of them are going to retire soon too or have already retired. So say that entering the competition and winning will prove that you were a good coach."
Viktor looked at him like he was seeing an alien. He didn't think it like that at all. That way he could actually surprise the world and it would be a very good start for his coaching career.

" Yeah... That is a very good idea. But still… I don't want to leave you alone..."

"Viktor… don't be silly! You love skating and this is important too! Accept!" Yuuri jumped up all fired up.

"Ok ok! I am accepting!" Victor announced and took his phone again. He took a place next to his fiance and placed the phone in a position to take a selfie.

"Yuuri, smile!"

The photo he took he posted it with the right hashtag accepting like this the invitation to the competition.

"Viktor you need to find a partner now." Yuuri sang and kissed his cheek before heading back to the kitchen to prepare the rest of the breakfast.

A few days later Viktor and Yuuri flew to Russia to find Viktor's old coach, Yakov. Viktor explained to him the situation he was in and asked him to help him find a partner. His coach thought about it and agreed with Yuuri's thinking, that it would be a good way to show to the world that he was a good coach if he was to participate with an amateur skater and win. So his coach speared the rumors about Viktor looking for a partner and the next three days they held auditions.

Yurio, Mila, Otabek, and Georgi were also there along with Yuuri to watch the process. Skaters came in and skaters came out. Three days lasted and Viktor had gathered a packet of biographies. At the end of the third day, everyone went to Viktor to see if he had found the right partner. Viktor was sitting on the floor with the profiles of the skaters he thought that they were interesting.

"So?" Yuuri asked his fiance.

"Hm… no good… I am not feeling like I can win with none of them..." Viktor said disappointed as he got up.

"WHAT?" Yurio exclaimed and tried to hit Viktor but Otabek held him back.

"Wow! Really? This is bad! Well, you still have days in front of you, but still..." Mila spoke next.

'What Mila said is indeed right.' Viktor thought. He had tried to skate with every volunteer that came, but he couldn't find one with whom he felt that he could win. So he started to lose the confidence he had about winning.

"Viktor? Is there another place that you maybe want to check?" Yuuri asked him trying to cheer him up. Viktor looked at him softly and got up but no word came out of his mouth.

"Viktor?"

"Guys… I will go and take a walk..." he said and left the ring alone. Yuuri watched him walk out of the building and an empty feeling took place in his heart.

"Don't worry Yuuri. He will speak to you too." Mila placed a hand on Yuuri's shoulder to support him. Yuuri just nodded.

'Will he?' he only wondered.

The day passed and night took over with no sign of life from Viktor. Yuuri was arguing with himself if he should call his fiance to check if he was ok, or if he should respect his privacy and wait for him patiently until he returns. But when he would be back? Viktor used to take very long walks to cool his head off making Yuuri worry to the point of calling him 10 times per minute with lots of messages.

In the end, Yuuri swallowed his worries, prepared a huge bowl of popcorn and sat on the couch of Viktor's apartment, along with Makkachin and watched the Russian news trying to practice his Russian. After hours, sleep took him over until he heard the door open and Viktor appearing in the living room, tired and exhausted. His face was grave and his eyes dark. Yuuri jumped up and ran to his fiance thinking that something horrible happened to him.

"Viktor? What happened? I was worried sick about you!"

"Yuuri we need to speak." Viktor was heard gravely and sat his fiance down looking directly into his eyes. "Yuuri… you don't know lots of thing about me and… and my childhood… I am gonna tell you about it... someday… but… well..."

He lowered his head and tried to find the courage to speak again. Yuuri patted his shoulder giving him the 'go' to continue. Viktor nodded and took a deep breath.

"I was born in Moscow and was raised there… That means that I started to skate for the first time in Moscow, under a different coach before I come to St. Petersburg under Yakov's care. I want to go to her too."

The information he had given Yuuri was the less he could give. His past was too complicated to share it at the moment. Yuuri understood that his fiance wasn't gonna speak about his childhood so he just nodded and approved. So the next day they left for Moscow.
