A/N: This one is meant to be a missing scene from Series One Episode Seven - The Best Teacher. This came about because by the end of the episode Esmerelda clearly knows Ethel's mother had left instead of talking to her as she takes her sister to talk to her mother, in the scene where Maud asks her for advice in the library I noticed Esmerelda looked quite sad as if she had something on her mind and the only way the girl could have known what occured between her mother and sister is if Ethel told her so here you go. I do NOT own The Worst Witch 2017 or the Characters.

The Short Mirror Call

Esmerelda Hallow was making her way to her bedroom after she had finally finished mirroring her mother. She had been speaking to her mother for hours and now had to catch up on her studying. She was just turning the corner when she saw her sister Ethel storm past her looking angry and quite hurt followed by Drusilla.

Esmie stopped walking and looked over at her sister her eyebrows narrowed in confusion. She had literally just left her sister to mirror their mother less than an minute again so why was Ethel not talking to her, could they really have gotten into an argument within an few seconds of speaking to each other?

Esmie shook her head sending herself out of her thoughts before coming to her senses and walking over to her sister and her friend.

"Ethie what are you doing why are you not talking to mum?" Esmie asked her.

Ethel looked up at her sister and for an split second Esmie saw an hint of incredible sadness pass her features but then she came to her senses and changed her expression back to normal but her sister did not reply.

"Drusilla could you give me an minute with my sister?" Esmerelda asked the other girl knowing it would be awkward if Ethel was upset.

"Of course, I will see you later Ethel" Drusilla said as she walked off, Esmie waited until she had gone before speaking.

"What happened?" the girl asked looking at her sister concerned.

"She did not want to talk to me, she said she had to go and just left before I even could say hello to her" Ethel told her sister.

"I am sure she was just incredibly busy" Esmerelda told her sister trying to make her feel better.

"She had enough time to talk to you for three hours!" Ethel replied bitterly.

Esmerelda sighed. She had seen the last year her mother's treatment of her sister but could not do anything about it.

"Sorry I probably took all the time she had, I know tomorrow you can have my slot and talk to her for as long as you want" Esmie said kindly wanting her sister to talk to their mum too.

"Don't bother she does not want to talk to me, it is not like we have anything to talk about anyway I have not achieved anything but detentions" Ethel replied.

"Oh course you have things to talk about, tomorrow she will make it up to you I promise" Esmerelda told her sister with an smile.

"Whatever" Ethel replied walking away her heart full of sadness.

Esmerelda sighed feeling her heart break for her sister before finally making her way to her room.
