"Something Like Friendship …"
Betz88
I was on my way from the lab,
Hunting for you. To gab.
To await you …
And try to bait you.
You are there.
In your office, in the chair,
Head down, fingers tangled in your hair:
Quiet despair.
Suddenly it's me who's lame.
Freeze frame!
I cannot intrude on your solitude,
Or let you know
I just can't go while you're feeling so low.
I stand transfixed, feelings mixed;
Good mood deep-sixed.
You hate it that I care
And dog your footsteps everywhere.
So I stand in the hall
And stall,
Trying to melt into the wall.
Your head raises, your breath catches.
I hear you cursing; whispered snatches.
Your eyes lift to see
Your intruder.
Me!
You almost smile. Pain's denial.
"Wilson … when you sneak,
Your shoes squeak!"
So you got me again,
Your Mother Hen.
"You look tired, Gregg.
Come here!
You should rest your leg!
Let's go …
I'll buy you a beer.
"But you can pay for your own hooker!"
