John storms through the door with Sam in tow. He grips his arm beyond bruises leaving Sam to stumble forward onto his back. Dean saunters behind only watching as John manhandles his little brother.

John flings Sam's gangly body forward before yelling, "You almost got your brother and I killed! You're worthless! You can't shoot a gun. You can't track a fucking animal let only a monster if I told you! You never listen! What am I going to do with you?!"

Sam, sprawled on the musty carpet, tries to make himself small like the dirt beneath him. Nothing he can do will hide himself from his father's wrath.

The worst part is that he deserves it. When he tried to shoot the Wendigo before it attacked his brother, he missed. It was an easy target, but the image of his brother's dead body startled him enough so that the bullet whizzed by inches from the monster. Luckily, John came a millisecond later to save the day.

Sam only opens his mouth to say nothing. What is there to say? That he's a failure and that he'll never be good as Dean?

John's eyes only shine disgust as he grips Sam's shirt bringing him from the ground. He heaves him up against the wall looking like he was ready to punch him any second, but waits.

"Dad-go easy on him. He's doing the best he can." Tears prick Sam's eyes as Dean intervenes.

Doing the best he can. The words ring throughout his skull and leave him empty. Doing the best he can. The words only made Sam feel worse. If this is the best I can do, then Dean must think I'm pretty pathetic.

He releases Sam and walks towards Dean, "By the time you were his age, you could shoot a monster with your eyes closed! We need…You need to stop babying him," John spoke as if Sam was non-existent.

Finally Sam's scratchy voice broke through the tense room, "Will you stop comparing me to Dean. I'm never going to be a hunter."

John snapped around, his eyes piercing through Sam.

"Your weak Sam therefore you're susceptible to all of the monsters out their ready to kill a Winchester! No…no I'm going to change this. Dean tomorrow you're going to Pastor Jims. No questions. It's time to make you a hunter Sam," With that John stormed out of the motel room and into the soggy night leaving Sam and Dean alone.

"Sammy, everything's going to be okay. Dad's just trying to do what's best for you," Dean goes to comfort Sam but only gets rejected.

"Best for me or for himself," Sam adds venom to his voice so that Dean becomes a little startled.

Done with the whole situation, Sam goes to his bed with his clothes still on and his back towards Dean. Dean lets out an exasperated sigh and heads to the shower.

Dean knows that Sam messed up and that all he had to do was to try harder, so he didn't stand up for him. Maybe he is babying Sam too much. Maybe leaving is the best thing for Sam. With that in mind, Dean goes into the shower knowing that he was going to leave his baby brother tomorrow.
