Matthew x Karis story

Matthew sat on the cliff edge, throwing pebbles into the ocean. Tyrell came up from behind him. "Hey buddy. What's up? You've been sitting here for over an hour." Matthew looked over at his friend. "Just thinking about how that quest has changed all of us." Tyrell chuckled. "So you're thinking about her huh? Well, then I think I'll leave you to your own misery." He got up and left. Matthew looked over his shoulder as his fiery companion walked back to their house. Tyrell was his best friend and knew him better than anyone else. Of course he would know that he was thinking about Karis. He looked back out over the ocean. He had tried to forget for so many months, but he just couldn't.

It had happened a little bit after they stopped the Grave Eclipse and had returned home. They were studying the Psyenergy Vortex near the cottage when a homing pigeon flew in and landed next to Karis. She gently grabbed the bird and detached the small scroll. As she read, her cheeks became flushed, and her eyes lit up. "Matthew! Amiti wants us to visit him in Aruthay!" At mention of Amiti, Matthew grew irritated. Karis looked at him. "What is it?" "Nothing. We should probably start packing." He brushed by her and went inside. They packed and climbed aboard the Isaac's boat. After a few days travel, they arrived in Aruthay. Amiti walked out flanked by guards to greet them. "Karis! It is so good to see you!" He kissed her on the hand and bowed. Karis blushed a deep red and said "Thank you Amiti! Matthew and I are so happy to here!" He straightened and his lip curled slightly. "Oh yes. Hello Mathew." He and Matthew shook hands. He turned to Karis "Well we should go inside." The two walked ahead of Matthew. He shouldered his pack and walked after them. During the entire visit, Matthew was constantly the third wheel of the trio. On the night before they left, Matthew began to pack. As he stuffed clothes into his sack, he noticed Karis had not packed. She walked in and he asked"Hey. Why haven't you packed your bag?" Karis bit her lip and sat on the edge of her bed. "Listen Matthew… Last night when you went to look at the ruins with King Pathios, Amiti asked me to stay in Aruthay with him. I-I said yes." Matthew stopped what he was doing and turned to her. "Okay. That's just fantastic that you accepted that without thinking about what it would do to me. Just real freaking fantastic." He buttoned up his satchel and headed to the door. Tears began to fill up Karis' eyes. "I don't understand! Where are you going?!" He turned to her. "You know how long I've been in love with you, but you never showed you loved me back.
