SEPTEMBER 2013

"Cases of the mystery infection have doubled over the past week confusing doctors and the general population alike." Mum and Dad were still watching the news and it was like two in the morning. "Hang on, this just in some of the patients have turned on their nurses killing them."

"Lady we need to get out of he-!" The man didn't finish as his voice was drowned out by an explosion. One I saw out my window in the distance.

"Mum, Dad!" I was already heading downstairs.

"I'm here Courts." My mother was at the bottom of the stairs.

"Where's dad?"

"He's gone to check on the neighbours."

As mum said this dad burst through the back door, slammed it shut and walked straight to the locker where he kept his guns.

"Stay away from the door."

"Dad, what's going on?"

"The Jeffrey's, they aren't well."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean they are not themselves."

As he said this something hit the glass door with a thud and he readied his revolver.

"Get behind me."

We did so and one of the Jeffrey's smashed through the door like something possessed.

"John. I'm warning you . Stay back."

Despite dad's warnings John ran at us and dad killed him as I squealed.

"You, you killed him."

"Courtney, listen to me, we need to leave. You understand?"

I nodded.

"Ok. Lets go."

"Look out!" I cried as a truck t-boned us and crushed my leg.

"Shit, Mary, you alright?" Dad asked with no reply.

"Dad. Help." I called as I looked up to find a chunk of metal impaled through the passenger's seat. Through mum.

"Come here." I crawled towards my father's voice and out of the wreck of the car.

"Dad I think my leg's broken."

"Shit, ok, hold on." He picked me up and started running along with the crowd fleeing from the sick.

"Daddy, what's happening?"

"Just close your eyes."

I did so and tried to think of happy things. But they all turned to the screams surrounding me and the fast paced footsteps behind me.

I screamed in pain as Dad tripped over a root dropping me.

He looked back to see the sick people running at us closing the distance, "Go, Courtney, I'll be fine."

I did so and crawled into a nearby bush and watched him shoot at the sick people, killing most of them. But there were to many for him to shoot. I watched, terrified, as the last of the sick started brutally bashing his skull in.

I waited for someone to find me. Hoping the sick man wouldn't find me, or some murderers. I was scared.
