Author's Note: You know what's really weird? A year ago, to this day, I uploaded my first version of this drabble. Now, a year later, I've revised it and spruced it up a bit, so it's not so disgraceful. But, it kinda freaks me out that of all the days to redo this, I chose today. Creeeeeepy. oO;

Anyways, please enjoy this story in all its redone glory. :3

Smile

Neji and Tenten sat underneath a tree after a particularly long spar. Usually she didn't push herself so hard, but she felt she was getting left behind the team. Tenten and her weapons...what were they compared to Lee's amazing taijutsu and Neji's incredible blood-line?

Well, she had her best friend Neji, she thought to herself. But he was only a friend, no matter what she wanted. She doubted that they'd be anything more. But she could try and get something from him, at least...

"Neji, how long have we known eachother?" she asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

"Hn." Typical Neji response.

"Dammit Neji! Just answer the question!" she barked at him, a pout visible on her lips.

"Fine," Neji muttered, looking away. "A long time, okay?" Ha, she always knew which buttons of his to press.

She leaned back and smiled, nodding her head. Neji gave her a questionable look, but she ignored him. Over the years of their friendship, she had learned how to shrug him off.

"And, you know what I've realized recently, Neji?" she asked, her voice filled with undeniable confidence.

"What, Tenten?" Neji mimicked. His voice was tired and frustrated, but teasing, also. She was the only one to get this tone from him.

"I've never seen you smile!"

Neji gaped as she looked at him expectantly, arms crossed over her chest. She was right; He had never really smiled. Ever. Smirking, yes, but smirking doesn't count. Not in her book, at least. He shut his mouth and shook his head.

"But, Neji..." her voice came out in a disappointed whine.

His head shook back and forth once more. "No," he stated firmly. Her whole I'm-gonna-get-Neji-to-smile aura faded away. Slumping against the tree, she sighed, looking away from him. She knew he was looking at her, but she didn't move.

"Well, Neji..." she began slowly, "When you do decide to smile, make sure it's because of me. Deal?" she asked, turning towards him.

"Hn. Whatever."

Without waiting for a better reply, she stood up and began running towards the training grounds once more. Her usual behavior began to return. After a few minutes, her shout rang out across the grounds. "Ah Lee! Dammit! Why do you always do that?!" She continued to shout at the poor boy who was spouting nonsense about youth and young love.

"Say one more thing about my 'youthful radiance of love' and I'm gonna punch you!"

"B-but Tenten-chan, how can you say that? Don't you see the shining glow you have? You're always so invigorated and youthful after you talk to Ne--"

"Lee!" she tackled him to the ground, shoving her hand over his mouth. He was way perceptive, even if he didn't know it. Worriedly, she cast a glance at Neji.

Suddenly, Lee's babbling about youthful green things and Gai-sensei and whatever the heck he was talking about wasn't so bad. Because when she looked at Neji, he was smiling.

He was smiling.

And that was all that really mattered to her.
