It had been six months since Josh had come home a newly college graduate. Six months since him and Drake had decided to share an apartment about an hour away from where the two had spent most of their teen years. And now, everything was about to change. You see, Josh had a question to ask Drake and he wasn't quite sure how he should phrase it. Of course he knew what Drake's answer was going to be. It still didn't stop him from being nervous, though. Their relationship had been strained over the last four years because of Josh's absence, but they were still best friends right? More than that, they were family and in the last six months they'd become closer than ever. Still it was a question that excited Josh's nerves so much so that he decided tonight would finally be the night.

Drake and Josh were sitting on the couch that evening watching some mindless game show that neither one was really paying attention to, but surprisingly both managed to laugh and sigh at the appropriate times. After what seemed like an eternity of mindless trivia questions and challenges that would make Freddie Krueger barf his lunch, a commercial came on. Josh took this as his cue and after a moment's hesitation ventured into conversation with a tentative, "Drake."

"Yea, man, what is it?" Drake replied, his head never turning away from the TV.

"I wanted to…I mean have to ask you…-," but he was cut off midsentence.

"Aren't you suppose to do this on one knee?" Drake was now facing Josh with an ever taunting smirk on his face.

Josh let his disapproval show presently on his face, "Gosh, Drake. Why do you always have to go and ruin things?"

"I was just-." Drake tried.

"Forget it." Josh cut him off.

The room became uncomfortably silent with the exception of the TV. Drake, now facing the TV once more, maintained his composure with only a hint of a 'maybe I went too far' glint in his eyes. Josh on the other hand sat fuming next to him thinking about how inconsiderate Drake could be of other people's feelings sometimes. He knew that this was a big deal. He knew that certain things made Josh nervous. If there was only some way that Josh could take the edge off this whole busin—the idea came to him in a flash. The corners of his mouth began to turn into a smile as he thought of giving Drake exactly what he wanted. With one quick calculated movement Josh was down on one knee. Drake gave a start on the couch.

"I was only-," he began, but Josh held up a hand to cut him off.

"Hey, this is what you wanted," Josh reasoned, and Drake had to bring his hand up to his mouth to stifle a laugh.

"Now," Josh started, "Like I was saying before. Drake Parker?"

"Yea," he answered from behind his hand.

"Will you……be the best man at my wedding?"

"Of course," he replied.

Josh beamed and jumped up to his feet with his arms spread wide. "You know it's coming," he said looking down at Drake.

"Always," Drake replied getting off the couch. As soon as he did Josh wrapped him in an embrace that nearly lifted him off the ground. "Can never get tired of those," Drake said, holding onto his back after Josh let go.

But Josh didn't hear the mock pain in his step-brother's voice. No, he was too busy looking to the near future, which included the love of his life on one side and his best friend on the other. I mean, how much better could life get?
