Shadow of the Day

A/N: I threw this together in about 20 minutes. I will be changing parts here and there and I might throw in a prologue depending on what people want. Also, Naruto is 6 and Gaara is 4. Slight AU.
"Hey, Naruto." A little boy whispered. He had shoulder length red hair, dull emerald eyes, and was very short. "Yeah?" the boy known as Naruto answered. Naruto also had shoulder length hair except his was blond and somewhat spiky compared to the other boy. "Do you think we will ever be adopted?" "I don't know Gaara. I just don't know. You hear what the headmaster says. 'no one can love little monsters like you.' What have we done to deserve being called monsters?" Naruto replied back to the boy named Gaara. "Maybe it's because we never knew our parents?" Gaara asked hopefully. "No that can't be it. A lot of the other kids here can't remember their parents either. It has to be something else." He replied. "Naruto?" "Yeah, Gaara?" "Do you think we will be friends forever?" "Yeah I do Gaara. We have to support each other since no one else will." "ARE YOU MONSTERS TALKING AFTER LIGHTS OUT??!! YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU CONTINUE, DON"T YOU?? NOW SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!" The two little boys hurried to pull the covers over their heads and hope the head master goes away soon. About a minute later, they see the shadow in the window leave and know they are at least safe for this night. "Goodnight Naruto." "Goodnight Gaara." And with that, the two little boys fell asleep, hoping that tomorrow would be better.
That night, Naruto had a dream. He was walking down a street and it was pitch black except the light that seemed to be centered on him. "Hello? Is anybody there?" he called out into the dark. No answer. 'that's weird' he thought to himself. Then he saw a light shine down a little ways in front of him, blinding him for a second. "Naruto. You lied to me. Why did you lie to me. You said we would be friends forever. Why did you let him hurt me." 'That voice' Naruto thought, 'I know that voice.' "Gaara?" he called out to his best friend. "Why did you let him do that to me?"
'What is he talking about? What happened to him? Who did what to him?' "Gaara, what are you talking about? Who hurt you? I wasn't lying, we are still friends." And finally, after all this time, the light dimmed down and showed a battered and bruised Gaara, standing there with blood seeping out of his mouth and a gash in his head. 'what the hell happened to him?' "Gaara what the hell… are you okay?" As he started walking towards Gaara, another light shone down to his right. "Why didn't you fight against him? Why didn't you help him, Naruto? He looked up to you as someone that was strong, and then you go and disappoint him this badly, even placing his life in danger. What did Gaara do to deserve this?" now this voice Naruto didn't know. He had never heard this voice before. "Why didn't you help me Naruto? Why didn't you STOP HIM FROM HURTING ME!? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?! WHY DID YOU ABANDINE ME!?" Gaara yelled in a hate filled voice, Naruto could feel the venom dripping from every word. 'What is he talking about? No one has hurt him, have they? Am I missing something?' he asked himself. "Good bye, Naruto. I hope you find yourself in the shadows." The second voice said, now decipherable as a girl. "Yes good bye forever , my friend." Then the lights started to fade into nothing. "Wait, who are you talking about? What happened to Gaara? WHO HURT GAARA!!??" and with that last word he woke up to a new day.
