"After all this time, you come back into our lives like nothing ever happened?! It is too late!"
The man's screaming echoed through the empty hall. He stood in front of a figure, blocking his way to enter the room.

"Move aside." The other man said, a dangerous tone lingering in his voice.

"I told you to not show yourself in front of her ever again."

"And I told you to move aside."

"You arrogant bastard. Don't come back ordering people arou-!"

"Boys, boys, no fighting in the medical wing." Shion said as she found the two men in the hallway arguing in a tone that was not appropriate.

"But Karanomori, you know as well as I do that it's his fault for-"

"Gino!" Shion shouted, as to his surprise."Enough. We have all been through enough already. You know very well that she needs him."

"Tsk" Gino looked aside, clenching his teeth and retreated.

Shion turned her attention to the man standing on front of her. "It's been a long time since we've seen each other again…Kougami"

"Yeah, it's been a while." a tone of gratitude was evident in his voice.

"So you have been informed about her condition." It was more a statement than a question, since Kougami wouldn't have been there standing right in front of her.

A moment of silence passed between the two of them until Shion spoke again "You know, even when she never mentioned it, she has always been waiting for you. She knew that someday you would be back. That's what she believed not matter what she was told. Always a stubborn girl." Shion paused and sighed "Well, take your time and lighten up a bit. Surely she wouldn't want to see a frown plastered on your face."

"Thanks" Kougami said while Shion walked away, waving her hand.

Rain drops started to hit the window and Kougami looked outside to see dark clouds covering the sky. He turned to the door in front of him and took a deep breath. More than 5 years since they've worked together and more than one year since they crossed paths. He pushed the button on the wall and the door opened. It closed as soon Kougami stepped inside. His eyes fell on the small figure lying in the bed.

Bump…bump…His heart beat had suddenly increased. Was it because he hadn't seen her in years? Or was it the fact that he had been longing for her when he was fighting to survive and now he was finally near her?

Kougami took the only chair in the corner of the room and carried it next to the bed. He sat down and studied the figure lying in front of him. Her hair had gotten longer he noted. He held her hand and was surprised to motice that it fit perfectly in his. His gaze wandered to her face, seeing that she looked so peaceful when she was sleeping. At least she didn't feel anything, at least she was not in pain.

Kougami closed his eyes and bowed down, leaning his head on the mattress. So much had happened, not only to him, but also to her. Both of them had gone through so much and after all the mess they had overcome, she became like this. What was left of her? She was like a living corpse. Alive but being dead inside.

He grasped her hand with both hands and whispered into the darkness.

"Akane"
