A/N: My first fic in four months, written through writer's block like a worm through mesh! I absolutely love Robert Knepper, so needless to say I was quite annoyed when they got rid of Simeon so early- so annoyed, in fact, I became addicted to the thought of writing a fic for him -specifically the untold scene at The Greater Good's close- and I'm aiming for a second :) I'm not sure why, but I quite like using present tense for SGU!

Disclaimer: The very last line is taken from the poem 'Havisham' by Carol Ann Duffy.

Break

The mind is a marvellous thing. It feels, it thinks, it imagines; it is the key to being. The mind of a genius unlocks impossible equations, and the mind of a child contains un-deterring innocence. Actions and speech are calculated by it, the art of a painter is drawn from it, and the works of an author are born from it. But the mind is also a fragile thing, and if bent and twisted, neither words nor wishes can repair it.

Simeon's mind has broken long ago.

But now his hands are steady, intentions as clear as the marks on his neck as he drifts towards her quarters. They're of the same clan, practically family, but her words must be silenced- it will kill the other, the Perry woman, but he resolves the universe could do with one less scientist, one less meddler of matter, sticking their noses into what wasn't theirs. He has no care for science, not even a thought for it. Even as a child Simeon never felt the need to learn anymore than what he knew- what was the point? What mattered was where they were, what was happening, what had happened- not what never would.

But the Tau'ri and their curiosity had broken this understanding, greedy as they were, to venture to faraway planets in the name of science. People were killed. People he cared about. And they left gaps.

He filled these only how a criminal could: with hate. Hate for Earth, for the Tau'ri, for exploration and science. He didn't join the Lucian Alliance for the chance to earn god-like powers; didn't care about space or technology- the only thing on Simeon's mind was revenge.

And now one brat threatened that.

She struggles, the Perry woman, but she's certainly no match for him. There's strength in his wiry limbs, enough to keep her flailing figure on the floor and wrap…

~The ones he loved. The ones he cared for.

his hands…

~His friends.

around…

~His family…

her life...

Her struggles ebb; he feels her weaken in his grip… watches the light leave her eyes until she's motionless beneath him and the only echo is his breath.

Sigh.

Don't think it's only the heart that breaks.
