Seishirou had never been particularly bad at choosing times to drop in at the Sumeragi twins' apartment in Shinjuku. In fact, seeing as he usually arrived after meeting with Hokuto at a random café or sweet shop, and almost always planned ahead of time, his visits had never conflicted with either Subaru's or Hokuto's schedule like this before.
As things had turned out, Subaru was preparing for a "hot date", as Hokuto called it, and one that he shouldn't be going on with anyone but Seishirou-san, when he happened to knock on the door. However, one Sumeragi twin was just as good company as the other in most cases, and after being invited inside and seated with a cherry limeade, he decided that perhaps an evening with the female Sumeragi twin would not be an entirely terrible way to spend his time.
So, Seishirou sipped his limeade and watched soccer on television while listening to Hokuto interrogate Subaru, who was slowly getting him to reveal the facts. Facts such as the identity of the girl, where he met her, what she did for a living, who asked who out, et cetera. He might have been just a little jealous, had Subaru's date not been a teenage girl that worked at the library, and had Subaru been the one to ask her to dinner and a movie instead of vice versa. Though, in the long run, the handsome veterinarian felt that he really had nothing to fear from such a young girl. And if it turned out that he did, well, he had ways of changing that.
Something on the TV screen caught his eyes and he laughed, setting his drink down on its coaster. Hokuto stopped harassing Subaru in order to ask what was funny. Subaru gratefully took advantage of this and turned to the mirror by the door, trying for the seventh time to correctly knot his tie.
"Oh, nothing." Seishirou smiled, leaning back into the sofa. "All this commotion you're making reminds me of my first love."
"Oh, really?" Hokuto grinned, suddenly disinterested in anything Subaru had to say, plopping down on the opposite side of the soda instead.
"I am not in love with Midori-chan!" Subaru announced, a bit too enthusiastically, wilting a bit upon realizing that no one had even listened to his statement, and that Seishirou was already busy telling a story.
"Miki Furukawa. We played soccer together in high school. It was young love." Seishirou stirred lime sherbet into his drink, which he silently swore had been spiked with rum, lifting it to his mouth for a sip. "We were going to get an apartment together after we graduated. She was going to play soccer and I would begin studying to become a veterinarian, so that I could start my own clinic here in Shinjuku. Obviously, not everything worked out that way."
"Wow, Sei-chan.." Hokuto stared at him in amazement. Even Subaru had been listening, the distraction only making his necktie harder to manage.
When Seishirou didn't go on, Hokuto bounced to sit beside him, leaning in just a touch too close.
"So? What happened?"
"Oh." Seishirou grinned, leaning to the side, giving himself more room to make up for how close Hokuto had been to his face a moment ago. "I revealed my true identity as the one and only Sakurazukamori, and that definitely changed things between the two of us!"
It wasn't until a few seconds after Seishirou had begun to laugh at his own joke that Hokuto recovered, cackling along with him. Eventually, a small blush crept across Subaru's face, and he let out a soft chuckle as well.
"What, your love wasn't strong enough to keep her from getting squeamish over a few dead bodies every now and then?!"
"Apparently not!"
Seishirou and Hokuto were both laughing too hard to notice as the soccer game on television was won with a last-second goal by a woman named Maki Furugawa, but Subaru did notice. And as he thought more and more about it, he found himself wondering about the chances of such a striking coincidence.
