Of Doodles and Love
A/N: Hello! This is just a one-shot that I was thinking about during my writer's block on my other story. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't own anyone!
Val sighed and threw away yet another horrible start to her essay. She had finally made it to the last month of school, and homework was slowing down. That gave her more time to finish her make-up work… and spend more time with Ravus.
She had been able to sneak away during the late hours of night to spar with her troll "boyfriend." It felt so odd giving him such a modern label; it was almost as odd as calling her mom's house "home."
Still not believing that Ravus, an ancient and noble troll with amazing potion making abilities, could love her, a human who decided to get high off of faerie magic, Val sighed and started doodling. Her drawings started off as tiny faeries, then became swords that ranged in size and shape as Tamson's to one that was long and thin, like a needle. Never. Val winced, remembering the prick of the needle and the amazing high that came for a short time. After nearly two months without Never, she could still feel her veins twist and her skin twitch at the thought of the amber sand.
The paper she was supposed to be writing her essay on was now covered in swords, a variety of fey-like creatures and, strangely enough, hearts. Looking closer, many of them encircled a "V and R." In other places, Val had subconsciously written Ravus's name over and over. The little proclamations like "I heart Ravus" reminded her of a junior high girl's notebook. She remembered what her junior high experience was like. She was surrounded by immature guys who liked to show off and girls who would scribble a guy's name on their notebook and sigh when he passed.
Val shuddered, pushing away the paper. Junior high was awkward for her; it was a good thing she had Ruth.
She couldn't believe that she had been that immature to write it, though. Yes, she loved him, but Ravus deserved more than just junior high fantasies. He deserved a…a… sign, no a blimp! No…
Ravus deserved the world; Val just wasn't sure if she deserved him.
A sharp tap at her window jolted her from her thoughts. The crow that usually escorted her to the secluded clearing where she and Ravus sparred, hopped around on her sill impatiently.
She got up and went to the window. After climbing down the terrace, Val followed the oily-looking crow to the small forest on the far side of the park.
Just as she reached the clearing, Val found fresh claw-marks on a nearby tree. Stepping closer, Val realized the marks were words.
For love I fight, because I don't want to lose you forever. Ravus and Val.
Leave it to Ravus to make something so junior high-ish seem so elegant.
It's not the best I've written, but it's okay.
