1600 AD/CE-- South-East China
Yes, she was dead.
Dead, dead, dead.
But... what of her child?
Her poor, defenseless, innocent child, who lay crying. The poor child who had no one to protect him. The poor child who lay in the middle of two robbers. The robbers who had come into her house expecting no one. The robbers who had stabbed her as she walked into the room. The robbers who had slaughtered her merely because he was startled. The robbers that surrounded her child, her poor, defenseless, innocent child.
She watched them, she was dead. A spectrum.
She watched them as a ghost, crying and praying through clenched teeth to her fake god. "Please good Lord, save my child, spare my child, leave my child be!" she called out. Not a word was heard out of her mouth, as no one could see or hear her frantic pleas and prayers.
"What shall we do with it? We can't just leave it here!" one of her killers murmured, looking towards the other.
"Yes, oh thank you Lord--" she began, lifting her hand towards the heavens. She thanked her god, thanked him dearly. Praised him, cried tears of joy because of him.
She stopped in mid-sentence as the baby's crying ceased abruptly, and the accomplice of the murder stood there, fingers clenched around the knife.
The knife that went through her poor, defenseless, innocent, silent child's skull.
"O God..." she began, "My child... My child!" the deceased called out to the killers. "Why, Lord? Why do you kill my child? I prayed to you! I worshiped at your feet! I gave you lavish offerings of incense and cuts of the finest meat! Why, Lord?" she was in utter agony, she clutched her chest, noticing for the first time of the chain that bound her to her body. She clutched it in her hands, and wept hysterically. She clenched her hands around it, and tugged as hard as she could, "Why Lord? I resent you! I resent your 'kind ways'! Why must you bind me to this earth and force me to watch my child die in front of me? In front of my own eyes? Is this atonement for my sins? But why? Have I not been a loyal follower to your word? WHY LORD?" she yelled out to the heavens in a fit of shock and hysteria, tugging at the wretched chain and cursing her god for her-- and her child's ill fate.
Out of the corner of her bloodshot eyes, she spotted her murderers leaving out the back door. "You! You forsaken bastards!" she dropped her chain immediately, and ran towards them at full force, hoping to catch them, and bind them to the same fate they bound her to. She ran, but was halted, and fell back.
The accursed chain that bound her was now gone, gone forever. It was the first thing she noticed. She looked down at her chest. The second thing she noticed. Something was missing, something important. An entire cylender of her body was gone. She traced the inside and gasped. "Where has my heart gone?" It was a fairly big hole in the least, her entire small hand could had fit into it. It was gone, it was hollow.
She couldn't believe it. Her eyes widened in disbelief, and she gasped again.
The transformation that would bind her to her ill-fate started.
The transformation from a deceased woman to the abomination of nature that came to be known as a hollow.
