Chapter 1: Should Have Said No

Third Person POV (The Night Of The Rumble)
In reality, it was really all that stupid little drink's fault.
Randy knew this, yet on the night of the rumble he sat in his mustang and took another sip out of his flask. Cherry's last words she had spoken to him rang true in his ears.
"Be better than Bob was, Randy. Get rid of that drink, nothin' good is gonna come from it."
Randy's knees gave out when he saw Bob's grave. He slowly began speaking to his best friend's grave in an unsteady voice.
"They said 'no'. I heard 'em say it the day I told them the news. Never woulda believed it if I didn't witness it myself. I didn't think their mouths even moved that way," Randy gave a bitter, unstable laugh, pushing some stray dirt off of his best buddy's fancy grey headstone.
"Robert Samuel Sheldon Loving Friend and Son," It read simply.
What generic words, Randy thought. Bob deserved a little more thought than that.
With shaking hands Randy pushed himself off if the ground, fighting back hot tears. His eyes stung.
"It shoulda been me. I should have done so many things differently that night. Anybody but you, Bob," Randy whispered, taking one last look at Bob's gravestone before hightailing it back to his mustang.
Randy heard a blaring car horn, screeching tires, and the sickening, crunching sound of metal hitting and bending medal before he saw the foggy outline of Bob's face staring back at him. That was his last moment on earth.
Shoulda listen to Cherry, he thought.
