I DO NOT OWN Ouran High School Host Club!

They're yelling again. He hears them, shouting at each other, he can hear that his mother is in tears again.

He closes the door to his room, closes his heart, but he can still hear them, hear his father's angry, raised voice.

The yelling is the first verse of a dreadful song he knows by heart. A song his parents taught him early on.

Tears gather at the corners of his eyes. He knows what'll happen next. Waits with sick anticipation for his mother's pained screams and his father's angry, animalistic grunts as he beats her.

That's the chorus, the main part of the song. The one that expresses all the hate that lives with him in this house.

There's more yelling, but this time, it's his mother's voice, which sound shriller and shriller with every sentence, until her voice breaks and all that's left is a series of horrible, desperate sobs.

Second verse, just a continuation of the first one, only a little more intense.

The bridge consist of stomping footsteps racing up the staircase, closet doors opening and slamming shut and the sound of a trunk being dragged over the cold tiled floor.

The door opens slowly and his eyes widen with fear.

His mother comes in and closes the door. In the dim light, he can see a dark bruise starting to form high on her cheekbone, its red, purple color a stark contrast to her porcelain skin.

She hugs him wordlessly, tears fall onto the ground, he's not sure whether they're his or hers.

"I love you very much, you know that, right?" she croaks out and squeezes him tightly against her warm chest.

"I love you, too, Mommy." He whispers and struggles to breathe.

"I'm sorry, Kyou-chan...I'm so sorry." She sobs and he nods his head eagerly.

"I'm going on a bit of a v-vacation." It's hard for her to get the last word out, but he knows what it means.

She lets him go and casts him one last loving look out of her dark gray eyes, before she gets up and leaves, closing the door behind her.

He hears his father's pleading and bribing 'This won't happen again, I swear' Kyouya has heard that sentence so many times, and so has his mother.

The song ends with a door loudly slamming.

She'll come back to him and his brothers and sister and then they'll be a family again.

She'll come back for sure, he tells himself.

Only that this time, she doesn't.

Kyouya is about 7 in this story...I didn't read the manga, but this is my shot at trying to explain, why his mother didn't seem to be around in the anime.
