Forgive and Forget

Author's Note: I finished watching Bionicle 3 and I was itching to write something, so I wrote this. It always felt like the creators were missing an apology scene, especially between Vakama and Nokama. So, here it is!

"Nokama?"

The Toa of Water turned around at the sound of her name. She had finished loading yet another Matoran capsule into the airship. It would only be a few hours until they were on their way to taking the "heart of Metru Nui" to their new home, thus completing the Great Rescue.

Timidly, the one who had spoken approached her. He met her eyes, and then turned away.

What do I say…? he wondered to himself. He had been pondering this question all day as the Toa had been making their final preparations to leave. Knowing that he should say something, Vakama reluctantly began the dreaded conversation.

"Yes?" Nokama asked. Vakama knew that she knew what was on his mind.

"I want to…" Vakama said, and then hung his head, "apologize." He slowly met her gaze. "For all that I have done."

Nokama gave Vakama a blank stare. "Honestly, I don't know what you're talking about, Vakama."

The Toa of Fire gave her a surprised look. "Huh?" was the most intelligible reply he could think of.

Nokama smiled warmly. "I think you must have been dreaming."

Surprised, Vakama realized what Nokama was doing. He lowered his eyes, feeling unworthy of the forgiveness that his friend was so freely offering him.

"Nokama…I appreciate what you're trying to do, but there's one thing I have to tell you." He sighed quietly, nervously gathering up his courage. "Throughout everything that happened," he said slowly, "my feelings never changed for –"

The Toa of Water put a hand to his mouth before he could finish his sentence. He stared at her as she gently rested her hand on his cheek. The leader of the Toa blushed, in spite of himself.

"No more nightmares," she whispered, a soulful look in her eyes. She then smiled. "Just happy dreams."

She turned and walked away.

Vakama stared after her and then sighed contentedly. He didn't hear another's footsteps approach from behind him.

"Hey, Vakama," Onewa said, "I thought I heard you talking to someone... Who were you talking to?"

Vakama turned to his brother. "Oh," he said sheepishly, "just Nokama."

Onewa folded his arms with a knowing grin. "Just Nokama?"

Vakama blushed. "I think we ought to get back to work…"

With a chuckle, Onewa said, "Whatever you say, boss."

Onewa left, and Vakama picked up a Matoran capsule that had rolled off the treadmill.

He paused for a moment in his work to look where Nokama had disappeared. She's more than just Nokama… he thought to himself and then smiled. She's the Toa of my dreams. With that, he set back to work.
