Every Year
Berwald was waiting. Waiting for Santa. Every year Berwald would wait in his living room and listen for Tino. He would set up a fire and watch the flames dance. The clock would slowly turn counting the hours.
Then at 12 'o' clock every year he would hear his sleigh making its way back to their house and would hear it land.
Every year Berwald would get up and walk to the door and open it.
Every year Tino would unhook his reindeer and set them loose.
Every year Berwald would walk down the steps that lead to their door.
Every year Tino would turn around and give Berwald that smile reserved for him and him only.
Every year Berwald would hug Tino.
Every year Tino would return that hug.
Every year, every single year, they would kiss and Tino would say "Merry Christmas" once they broke away from the other lips for air.
And every year Berwald would reply "I love you" or as best he could considering his accent.
Every year the only thing Berwald asked for from Santa was for him to come safe and sound, for him to kiss Berwald when he returned safe and sound, and for him to spend Christmas morning with Berwald and Peter. That was all he wanted and that was exactly what he got every Christmas.
