Author's Note: I couldn't decide on an ending, so I just put both. It's a oneshot about the Battle of Hogwarts. Please let me know what you think and which ending you like better!
"Audrey, I have to help fight. He killed my parents, now it's time for me to have a chance at revenge," Alex tried to reason with me.
"Or a chance to die!" my voice was ten octaves too high, filled with panic. "Please Alex, don't go. You're my best friend, I can't even imagineā¦" I trailed off, leaving the sentence hanging.
"I know that, but it doesn't change my mind. He killed my whole family! My mum, my dad, my two-year old sister!" his voice rose with his anger. "I need my vengeance."
"Please come with me. Come be safe. Come-" I began, but Alex interrupted.
"Be safe? If he doesn't die tonight, he will send people after all of us and kill us anyway! You-Know-Who, er- Voldemort, needs to be stopped at all costs! I know there will be sacrifices, and I understand I may be one of them. It's all for the greater good. The Death Eaters are breeching our defenses now, so if you'd like to go, you should leave soon," he said sadly.
"I believe in you," I whispered, tears filling my eyes. Then the full effect hit me- I may never see Alex again. Suddenly, I was kissing him with a passion hot as fire, and he was kissing me back. "I love you," I said, spells exploding all around us.
"I love you too," he told me, then he ran off into the thick of the battle.
Alternate Ending #1
I spun on the spot, apperating away from Hogwarts into the safety of my home.
Later that week, You-Know-Who was declared gone for good. A few days later, the Ministry of Magic released a full list of names of everyone who died at the Battle of Hogwarts. As I perused the list, my heart swelling with hope, I started crying as I read the names of my many friends who are now dead.
Then ice formed around my heart and shattered it. There it was- clear as glass: Alex Quinn. I froze, and my life fell apart.
It has been over a year since my life was destroyed, and there isn't a day I don't miss Alex with his determined smile, his mischievous eyes, and his caring personality. I now realized I truly did love him, since first year when he asked me to cover for one of his pranks, and I still do.
Alternate Ending #2
As I watched his silhouette disappear into the smoke from the battle, an atrocious image filled my mind- Alex standing alone against many faceless strangers. I then saw him hit with a green flash; he was still and moved no more. I could not bare to lose my best friend, or whatever else he had become in the last few minutes. I snapped back to reality and raced after where Alex disappeared to.
When I finally found Alex, after searching for what seemed like an eternity, he was valiantly fighting three masked Death Eaters, and seemed to be standing his ground. As I was about to cry out his name, a green-tinged light came from behind and hit him in the back. My vision had come true- Alex was dead and there was nothing I could do to change it.
I released all my anger on the Death Eaters. I stunned one, put another in a full body-bind curse, and hit another with a spell with so much energy and fire I might have killed him. I whirred around, furious, running on adrenaline and hatred.
I see the unmasked Death Eater, Bellatrix Lestrange, before she catches my eye seconds later. She gave me a maliciously sweet grin, and I ran for my life. I tripped over a dead body, and laid sprawled out on the ground when the curse hit me. It was Alex's body, and my hand lay on top of his. Then it was all over.
