Author's note: First RWBY fanfiction and first fanfic in a really long time. Honestly, I don't really have a much of a clue of where this fanfic will be going as I'm writing this when I'm bored/have free time from my job and school. Updates will be sporadic. Yes, this is a self-insertion fanfic so if you don't like those this probably isn't for you.
The sun shone brightly as the young man started to walk up the ramp to the airship but stopped when he heard a commotion behind him. He slowly sidestepped as young girl went flying passed but ultimately tripped and fell. "Hello Ruby. How's the weather down there?"
"Ugh! How did you know I was behind you?" Ruby responded.
"Wasn't that hard to hear your boots hitting the pavement. I'm assuming Yang is somewhere around here too?" the man said looking down at the girl while twirling his cane with a smirk.
"Hey DJ. I see my sister tried to surprise you again" Yang said coming up to the duo. DJ helped Ruby off the ground and continued onto the airship to find a place to sit. "I see you're still using that cane of yours."
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Although I have made some modifications during the past couple of months." He responded. DJ kept holding his cane out of reach from Ruby as she kept trying to get ahold of his weapon but she gave up after a couple minutes and sat down with a huff. "I added a second blade and it can turn into a rifle when need be." DJ leaned over and whispered to Ruby who perked up and started to float at that revelation.
DJ woke up just as the airship touched down on the landing pad and he stretched out while making his way towards the ramp. He reached the bottom just in time to see Ruby blow up in some girl's face but had moment of panic when he realized who the girl was and quickly moved to intervene. He was unfortunately unable to make it to the two in time and moved to do damage control but before he could make it Yang stepped in and stopped him. "She needs to learn to deal with situations on her own because we won't always be there to help" Yang softly spoke as the two made to head into the school. After the speech by the headmaster, DJ went to find a quiet place to just think about the day's events and what his future will hold as the beginning of his huntsman's career was about to take off.
A lot goes through one's head when you're launched off a cliff into a Grimm infested forest but mostly just trying to not hit a tree and lose your aura. I really hope I don't get fucked by hitting a tree or landing near a Grimm nest DJ thought while flying through the air but was cleared of any worry as he hooked his cane around a branch to slow himself down. This might take a while to get to the temple. Hope I find someone competent to pair up with he continued to think as he walked through the forest. The forest had a natural beauty to but also held a quiet danger to it as well. He continued to stroll through the woods but was becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of Grimm or other students that crossed his path. Man, fuck this bullshit. It's been an hour and I have yet to see anyone that hasn't already found a partner DJ thought as he cut down another Beowolf. He heard a scream coming from the distance and instantly took off in the direction. He was speeding through the forest getting closer to from where the he heard the scream come from. As he was getting closer to the source he felt a presence that was coming up from behind and quickly matched his pace. "Hey. Are you going towards that scream that was heard earlier?" the girl asked.
"Yes. I'm DJ by the way" DJ responded looking over at the girl without slowing down.
"I'm Kay" she responded. The duo skidded to a halt in the middle of a clearing to see the temple as well as Ruby falling from the sky. They made their way to the group that was gathered around and grabbed their chess piece before seeing a Deathstalker come out of the forest.
"Did she run all the way here with a Deathstalker chasing her?" a girl standing next to Yang said. Nobody said anything in response and instead collectively agreed to get back to the cliffs. After the group dispatched the giant Nevermore and Deathstalker, they were able to able to scale the cliff and get back to Beacon.
DJ was called up to the stage with Kay and the other 2 members of his team, Darius and Stephany, but he wasn't too interested in the ceremony and was starting to zone out. I hope this goes by quickly. I hope I don't miss anything too important by not paying attention. Why are the three of them looking at me like that?
"…Team Dusk (DDSK) will be led by Daniel Johnson" Ozpin said loudly after DJ started paying attention again. "Good luck and I expect great things from you and your team."
