Nightlock

I hope you enjoy this one shot! Please review!

It was at that moment that I knew my days were numbered.

Dehydration has settled in and my head was going fuzzy. I feel deadly sick with hunger and my legs won't hold me up for much longer. 'Kill me now, please' I beg to myself, not realising that I hadn't said it out loud. I drag my limp body out of the woods and collapse onto the river bank. I can see the sparkling water screaming out my name, but I know if I drink it, it will poison my body and I'll be dead in a matter of minutes. I continue to drag my body away from the water to resist temptation. That's when I see it. The pile of deep purple berries on a deep blue anorak. I get a sudden adrenaline rush and I'm back on my feet, racing towards the berries like my life depends on it. They are so juicy looking and will surely recover me enough so I can go and find some meat of my own. But on the other hand, I have never seen these kinds of berries before. At training the man doing the edible berries section told me not to eat any that I don't recognise as 'edible'. I need to make a decision and quick. My body is shutting down and I can feel my organs fighting the lack of nutrients and water. It's not a pleasant feeling. I decide that I need the berries; the pain in my body is getting unbearable.

I pick up a handful of the berries and slowly sniff them. They smell so sweet, too sweet. I bring one of the berries to my lips and put it into my mouth. I bite the berry softly just to get the taste of it. When the sweet juice trickles down my throat I know something is wrong. The pain in my body increases and my organs shut down for real. Starting with all the minor ones and moving onto the major ones. Finally reaching my heart. The feeling of suffocating must be a form of torture. My legs give way beneath me. I fall to the floor, smashing my head on impact. I can feel the dent in the side of my head taking me under. The blackness covers the rest of the arena until I can see nothing. The last thing I hear is a cannon fire. My cannon.
