Yu Yevon had just been annihilated, Yuna was now dancing gracefully as she performed a mass Sending. The group just stood there, watching her as they had done in Kilika; Djose, the steps of the Farplane, and the Sea of Sorrow. The dance was the same but their feelings about it were not; there was no grief this time. Of course there was a sorrow, but it was a dull one, overwhelmed by the calm feeling of finally giving the souls their rest. As they stood watching the pyreflies swirl around them, they were unaware that they would now have to bid one of their own a farewell.
Auron began to fade and pyreflies departed from him; Rikku turned to him and gasped, and Yuna froze.
" Don't stop. " Auron said as he took a few steps forward. "It's been too long already. "
" Sir Auron, you can't leave us now. At least stay with us while we tell the world. " Lulu said with rare emotion.
Auron stood close to her and smiled slightly and shook his head, " I've already seen what the people look like when the Calm comes. Guard Wakka. He needs a guardian more than Yuna ever did. "
He put his hands on Wakka's shoulders, glanced up at his hair and chuckled.
"It's always been my style, ya? " Auron shook his head and smiled. He turned to Kimhari and thumped a fist firmly on his chest.
Rikku looked at him ready to cry. He walked towards her and she almost stepped away. She smiled feebly as he placed a hand gently on her shoulder, " Tell your father I said, ' Thanks.' "
Now he came to Tidus, almost little brother and son and friend. Tidus opened his mouth to speak, " Aur—" But Auron hugged him with one are and gave him a little noogie.
" Guard Yuna well. "
" From what?"
Auron winked with his good eye and the corners of his mouth twitched. He began to walk away, but he turned and said, " Your story isn't over yet. "
Stepping towards Yuna he was a little surprised when she closed the last three feet between them. She ran to him and threw her arms around him, almost in tears.
" Thank you for everything Sir Auron. "
" You father would be proud, and your mother as well, High Summoner Yuna. " He kissed her forehead lightly, and walked to the edge of the platform. He turned to face his friends, but they were a little fuzzy now. He looked at Tidus and gave him a last piece of wisdom, " This is your world now. "
The moment he finished those words he was gone in a cloud of pyreflies, floating gently out of sight. All were quiet as they watched him go, except Kimhari who said so softly only he could hear, " Farewell. "
