It was a rainy day in Storybrooke. Regina Mills sat in her study, staring out the window, watching the rain drops pelt her apple tree and slide down the window. The glass acted like a shield and yet all she wanted to do was be out in the rain, let it drown her and try to wash away this feeling that had settled in the pit of her stomach.
Getting up, she moved to exit the study, making her way through the quiet mansion and into the large backyard. The rain was cold and yet it felt so good. It was the perfect camouflage to hide her tears. Emma's words were weighing heavy on her mind and her heart.
They had been officially dating for nine months and Emma had just told her she loved her. Regina didn't return them. She couldn't though she wanted too; they were on the tip of her tongue but wouldn't leave her mouth. The look on Emma's face had her broken her heart and watching her leave was the nail to her heart. That was days ago and she hadn't seen her since.
Why couldn't I just say them?
Emma made her the happiest she had ever been in years and now realized that why she had enacted the curse was so the blonde could save her from her path of evil and darkness. Leaning against the trunk of the apple tree, the Mayor let her head lean, her eyes closing as she let her head and heart fight over what to do.
"Regina?"
Her dark eyes flew open and for the first time since stepping into the rain, she shivered. She turned to see Emma standing there underneath an umbrella.
"What are you doing out here?" She questioned. "You could get sick."
Regina didn't answer right away, she watched as Emma came towards her and took off that god awful red leather jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders. She snuggled into the warmth of it, the scent of her girlfriend filling her nostrils, making her feel dizzy.
"Come inside," Emma said, reaching to take Regina's hand, wondering what would poses her to stand out in the rain in such a thin layer of clothes.
Regina stopped her. "Wait, I have something to tell you," she said, coming to the decision that it was now or never. The words had to leave her lips.
Emma looked at her with an arched brow. "It can't wait until we're inside?" She questioned.
"I love you." Regina forced the words out, feeling a flood of relief settle over her. "I'm in love with you, Emma." She said more firmly, smiling wide at the blonde.
Hearing the words, Emma felt tears glass her eyes, her heart racing. She dropped the umbrella and walked towards Regina, taking her face in between her hands, capturing her lips in a heated kiss.
"I am in love you too, Regina." Emma said between kisses, pulling the older woman tight into her arms, allowing herself to get lost in the Mayor's lips.
