Fools' Errand
"No. Absolutely not."
"Dean – there's no other choice. How else are we going to get close enough to get the shot?"
"I don't know, Sam, but you calling him out, is not going to happen. You're going no where near that demonic freak!"
"He's technically an angel, not a demon."
"And you are technically a moron, moron, and the answer is still no."
"Dean – it'll be fine."
"Explain exactly how it can be fine, Sam? You want to shove yourself in Lucifer's face when he's itching to ride your ass!"
"Oh, nice, Dean."
"Yeah, well it had to be said…"
"So, you got a better plan then?"
"I'm working on it."
"Dean, we're running out of time! This will work. I'll distract him; you get close enough to take the shot."
"Sam…"
"Dean. It will be fine. I'll be fine."
"Oh and how do you know that?"
"Because you're going to be right there."
Silence.
"Dean?"
".."
"Dean…"
"I'm thinking!"
"Together, bro, we can do this together…" Sam's voice is soft and imploring. His eyes are bright with faith and trust.
Dean caves.
"Fine. All right but if this goes South, you gotta promise me you won't do anything stupid, Sam. I mean it. Nothing."
"Dean…"
"I mean it, Sam. Nothing stupid. This goes bad? We haul ass, regroup and figure out something else. You got it?"
".."
"Sam."
"Okay, I got it. Nothing stupid."
"Okay."
"Okay."

And then Castiel was there with them and a whisper later they collapsed on the floor of Bobby's living room.
