Our first date.

...

"Are we there yet?"Violet asked me childishly.

"Almost." I laughed as we pulled into the fairground.

Her eyes went wide and glassy like a child's at the sight of all the bright lights. I smiled because she was happy but in the back of my mind a small voice was scolding me. I knew this was wrong. She's a child, an innocent girl; I'm an adult and should be acting like one.

I pushed these thoughts away. I loved her, just as she did me.

"Let's go." She smiled.

We walked through the fair playing games at different stalls and eating different food. We walked through holding hands, Violet pulling me every which way. She seemed oblivious to the dirty looks we were getting. I could be her mother if we didn't look so different. Stepmother maybe?

Yet, somehow they knew. Maybe it was the way she looked at me, maybe it was the way I looked at her. Maybe they could feel how happy she made me or maybe they could hear how fast my heart was beating.

Maybe it was when she won a giant polar bear and handed it to me.

Maybe... just maybe it was when I kissed her because I realised I didn't care.
