Just a little something I had to get out. I don't own the cast of Inuyasha. I only own my characters.
Sesshomaru frowned at his phone. His long time girlfriend and recently made wife, Jolly, had sent him a text. Both of them hated texts, and had agreed to never use them. It seemed something that she normally would've just called him about, since it simply read- I LOVE YOU, MY MARU.
She was just as her name described her. She had bouncy brown hair, and large green eyes. She was only 5'5", and had a plump figure. They were polar opposites, but that was what drew him to the young ningen.
Inuyasha came crashing into his office, as usual.
"You've gotta see this, Sesshomaru!" Sesshomaru rose and eyebrow, but complied, slipping his phone into his pocket, since it wasn't very often that Inuyasha actually called him by his first name. They went to one of their many waiting areas, and the TV was already surrounded by a group of people. It was turned to the news, and the subjects of topic were the New York World Trade Center buildings.
"Reports have just come in from America. Four airplanes have been taken control of by hijackers. One of them just hit the North Tower of the World Trade Towers, we are not certain of the plans for the other three planes." Sesshomaru prayed to any kami that would listen, hoping that Jolly wasn't on one of those flights. She always insisted on flying public planes, and she was supposed to be on her way back from Boston that day. He suddenly felt his phone ring, and quickly answered it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Maru, i-it's me, Jolly." Her voice was subdued, and he knew immediately that the kami's hadn't answered his prayers.
"I love you, Jolly," he whispered. He could hear her smile.
"I love you too, Sesshomaru. Please, just…stay on the line with me. I need to know that you're there."
"Of course." He heard her sniffle.
"Thank you, Maru. Remember, I want to be buried under the lilac tree."
"O-of course. We will visit you everyday." He ignored the stares his employees were giving him. He just wanted to listen to his wife's voice, know that she's still there. Be there for her in these last few minutes.
"Thank you." Both remained silent.
"I love you," Jolly whispered, and Sesshomaru closed his eyes, not wanting to look at the screen.
"And I love you, Jolly." The line went dead, but Sesshomaru kept the phone to his ear. He didn't need to look at the TV to know that the second plane had hit. He didn't need to hear the reporter inform everyone else. He just turned off his phone, and opened his eyes. He could feel the tears streaming down his face, and felt the shock coming from his beast.
Jolly was gone.
But his beast didn't rage, like many elder youkai have said. It just seemed to freeze, before just sliding back into the far recesses of his mind. What was the point of it raging? The beast was far smarter than most would figure. It knew that the men that had killed his mate were dead and it knew that nothing would bring her back.
Poor Sesshomaru. Sorry to do this to him, but I couldn't kill anyone else, and he was the logical choice to have his life affected like this.
