Spotted; Isadora Bass back in town after pulling the mother of all Houdini acts on us this summer and where is the first place Little Miss Bass goes on her return? Straight back to the depths of hell where she so rightly belongs… Or the Palace Hotel for those of you who don't know any better…
New York was the city that never slept. It was also the place that people never stopped talking and where everyone was waiting for the next piece of scandalous gossip to drop. Right now Isadora Bass was that hot piece of gossip on everyone's lips which she didn't mind as like her Uncle Jack said, there was no such thing as bad publicity. Isadora was impressed as she looked at the gossip girl blast, she had been back in Manhattan for forty minutes now and already she was back on the anonymous blogger's radar after being off it for two months. Judging by the blast and the accompanying photo of Isadora entering the palace to go with it, now the entire Upper East Side knew she was back in town. Smiling to herself, Isadora slid her phone back inside her handbag and smiled to herself, it was good to be home after being exiled and forced out of the city for the summer. Stepping out of the elevator, Isadora walked the short distance to her suite and upon her arrival to the place that she had been calling home ever since she was fourteen, Isadora found that her suite wasn't as empty as she had left it. Isadora couldn't help but smile at the sight of her brother Chuck, sitting on the couch holding his favourite accessory; a glass of single malt scotch and making himself at home. Chuck looked at her with the same brown eyes as Isadora's own before his mouth twitched in amusement before tuning into his trademark smirk. It was a rather welcoming sight for Isadora considering the two of them hadn't seen each other in two and a half months. Not since they were forced to go our separate ways over the summer but school was starting up in a week and Isadora was allowed to come home. "Hello Charles."
"Isadora, it's good to see you again alive and well for the most part at least…" Chuck began from where he sat, normally Isadora would have been annoyed that her brother had made himself welcome in her suite when she wasn't even there but she was happy to see her brother here, for once. It had been an awfully long summer and Isadora had spent the better part of it on the other side of the world without her errant brother to keep her company. Isadora wouldn't admit this out of fear of being mocked by her brother but it had been the longest time that her and Chuck had been apart from each other and she had missed him a lot. Isadora was used to her brother always lurking around somewhere near, getting into trouble which she had to get him out of.
"Right back at you Chuck, it's been a long time." Isadora admitted in a nonchalant manner as any sign of sentiment would have Chuck suggesting that she was turning soft. If there was one thing that the Bass family didn't do it was being soft, along with openly displaying feelings of affections.
"How was your prolonged stay in Australia, I'm guessing that your more than relieved to be out of purgatory?" Chuck asked, making conversation and it seemed only fitting as that's where Isadora had been sent to for the majority of the summer by their father. Isadora wearily laughed as she took her brother's scotch out his hand and drained the entire thing before taking a seat right next to Chuck on the couch. The irony of her brother's statement was that she actually loved being forced to stay with their Uncle Jack in Australia and do mind numbing boring paperwork at the Bass Industries office whilst she was there. Although she hadn't spent as much time doing work that was expected of her given that her Uncle Jack decided that they should spend more time having fun and enjoying themselves than doing work. So it wasn't that much of a punishment not that Isadora minded however it was coming home that was the real problem especially when she came face to face with the Big Bad Bart otherwise known as her father Bart Bass.
"I've just returned to purgatory actually and no I'm not relieved to back if I'm being perfectly honest, I'm dreading my inevitable run in with our father, god know when that will happen. Knowing Bart, he'll want to make me suffer as long as possible until he finally decides he's made me suffer for an appropriate amount of time before reminding me yet again what a disappointment I am to him. How I could have tarnished the Bass name if it wasn't for his intervention. We may have more money than god but we are not royalty, the furthest thing from it and our name isn't the most squeakiest of the clean names on the upper east side…" Isadora dismally noted.
"Why is it Bart is so mad with you sis? You never said what you did to get Bart so angry at you the prodigal daughter... What on earth did you do that was so bad to be exiled from New York for the summer?" Chuck questioned and Isadora wanted to laugh as there was no way she was the prodigal daughter, more like the unwanted daughter. Isadora was convinced that her father had been in shock upon the news that his first born child had been a girl. Bart had no idea what to do with a daughter which was ironic really as he had no business raising a daughter the way he lived his life, which is why Isadora practically raised herself along with some help from the various nannies, tutors and Bart's money.
"Apart from my existence? Your guess is a good as mine." Isadora joked but in fact was lying as something happened at the beginning of the summer and Bart had found out and ever since then he hadn't exactly been on speaking terms with Isadora. Ignoring her for three weeks until he finally spoke to Isadora, only to tell that a car was waiting downstairs to take her to the airstrip where the jet was waiting to take her to Australia. Isadora wasn't stupid, in fact far from it and she knew that her father was punishing her for what happened because it had cost Bart a lot of money to cover up not to mention Isadora had embarrassed him and that was the one thing that the Big Bad Bart hated; being embarrassed especially by his children
"Isadora…" Chuck began, as he knew when his sister was lying as the Bass' were natural born liars so Chuck could always tell when Isadora was lying to him but there was no way she could tell him what really happened. Anyway it was over and done with and Isadora just wanted to forget about it. The whole thing was in the past now and there was nothing that she could do to change it, so the incident was better off left in the past where it belonged.
"Leave it alone Chuckie." Isadora warned as her brother was pushing a subject that Isadora didn't really feel like talking about especially after a long flight home. Chuck could push all her liked but Isadora wasn't going to give this one up easily. Just thinking about what she did made her wince as she could always remember the lecture she had received from Bart after, that day he had struck the fear of Bart Bass into her and then some. After that if was exile for her.
"Will you stop calling me that Isadora? We're not seven years old anymore and I am far cry from an actual baby." Chuck pointed out and Isadora couldn't help but quietly laugh, the fact that her brother detested her calling him Chuckie, just encouraged Isadora to keep using that childhood nickname.
"You may have a point about that, you are no longer a baby and the two of us are not seven years old anymore. But that doesn't change the fact that I am older than you by fifteen minutes and you will always be my baby brother Chuck." Isadora teased referring to the fact that she and Chuck were fraternal twins and she was the elder twin. The two of them were born into one of the most wealthiest and powerful families on the upper east side. The only children of self-made billionaire Bartholomew Bass, known to most as the Big Bad Bart, a cold and ruthless man who in Isadora's opinion too the same approach to parenting as he did business. A notorious womanizer ever since his wife Evelyn, Isadora and Chuck's mother had died in childbirth. It was no secret their father resented them for that fact but Isadora didn't let it bother her much. Bart hated them and Isadora along with Chuck hated him. It was just a vicious circle of hate.
"But tell me what I've been missing since I've been gone, when it comes to gossip and scandals Australia didn't seem to offer much except for whatever Uncle Jack was getting himself into…"
"Nothing of particular interest, it's been a slow summer even for us but everyone will be overjoyed to see you especially Nate given that he's been desperately trying to get in contact with you all summer yet you've been intent on ignoring him for months." Chuck replied in a bored manner and Isadora glanced over at her brother. For twins the two of them were pretty different, sure they shared the same dark brown hair and dark chocolate brown eyes. But at times that was pretty much it as the Bass twins were as different as night today and despite the fact that the two of them were complete polar opposites in personality and personal interests but the two of them got on pretty well. Given that Chuck was the devious of the two and Isadora was the more moral but it didn't mean that Isadora couldn't be led astray. The two of them by far were not your average brother and sister especially since they tended to act more like comrades than siblings but it suited the two of them just fine as the only thing that really mattered was they gave each other balance. Not to mention they shared a mutual distaste of their father which would forever unite them along with the fact that they were brother and sister. The two of them were the only people that they could really depend on no matter what.
"I know, I'll get in touch with Nathaniel when I'm good and ready to deal with him." Isadora idly said with a small frown, she had forgotten about the Nate issue, which she knew she would have to eventually deal with. The boy was Chuck's best friend so Isadora couldn't avoid him forever.
"Does he have something to do with–"
"Before you even ask, no Nate is not involved with why I left this summer, so stop asking Chuck. I'm not telling you, at least not yet…" Isadora curtly replied interrupting Chuck before he could even get the question out. She knew that Chuck wouldn't let this ago, along with the reason why she was sent away for the summer but that didn't mean Isadora wouldn't try to keep her away from the truth for as long as she could.
"I'll find out eventually Isadora, you know I will."
"I know. I'm looking forward to it…" Isadora quipped with a small smile, she knew her brother would find out what secret she was keeping from him and it was only a matter of time as Chuck was proficient at finding out people's dirty secrets not to mention secrets didn't exactly stay secret on the upper east side.
