Elena smiled at the sunlight streaming through the large Victorian window. It had been almost two days since she had broken up with Stefan, but right now every sad feeling was replaced by bliss.
Damon was smiling in his sleep. His perfect blue eyes were closed and his chocolate brown hair was a mess. She tucked a loose strand of her own dark hair behind her ear and leaned in to him, breathing in his intoxicating sent.
"Hey," Damon muttered softly, slightly adjusting so that she could lay her head comfortably on his chest.
"Hi," She replied. She kissed his skin lightly, tempting him to pull her closer.
He pulled her up by the arms and kissed her gently, it felt like velvet pressing against her lips. She wanted more; she wanted to taste the velvet.
Damon sat up and sighed regretfully. "We gotta go…help Jeremy." He knew that mentioning her brother would arouse some kind of desire to get up and start the day.
Elena sighed, lying against the pillow and covering half her face with the soft quilt. "I can't, Damon." She felt the heaviness of fear weigh her heart down as she said the words.
"Hey, look," He smoothly pulled the quilt away until she looked at him. "If there is one thing I know about family, it's that you can't give up, no matter how badly you want to. If I had given up…" Damon looked away, clearly lost in thought.
"But with you and Stefan, it was different! Jeremy wants to kill me, and I'm supposed to be okay with that?"
"Stefan's wanted to kill me for centuries, and I've been okay with it for just as long…" Damon slipped off the bed. Elena turned away and watched the sunlight fade as a cloud briefly passed over it.
She could hear Damon shuffling around behind her, she didn't care, and all she wanted to do was sleep the day away and drink tonight.
"Why can't humans be nocturnal?" She muttered as she threw the blankets away and placed her feet on the cool floor.
Damon came over and wrapped his strong arms around her waist. He kissed her neck softly and they stood like that for what seemed like hours before he sighed too.
"That's not the way of the world, love." He replied.
Her skin felt electrified, every hair was raised on her body. He could leave her wanting more, and she couldn't stand it.
"Can't we just deal with it tomorrow? If anything happens, someone will call…" She grabbed his hands and pulled him towards the bed, he followed her willingly, like always.
She sat down and so did he, they stared at each other for another moment before he pulled her in closer and brushed his lips against her cheekbone. She could smell pine needles from all the time they were outside, burnt ashes from the fireplace downstairs, and the bitter aroma of whisky.
"I love you…" She mumbled into his shoulder as she lay her head against his warm skin.
"I love you more…" He smiled, kissing the top of her forehead.
"How much?" She teased.
"You are the star to my sky," She smiled this time.
"Now, can we go save Jeremy so that you'll shine a little brighter for me?" He begged.
"Fine…" She couldn't resist him begging. She got up and went into the bathroom, smiling to herself all the way.
