Joan Girardi was in her room, packing for her trip to UCLA. She had one
last pile of things to stick in a box. She stuffed her old blanket into the
box. She put her hair in a ponytail with an old ribbon. She looked into the
mirror .Ick. Can I make myself look more goofy? She shook her head and
threw the ribbon into the box.
She picked up the last thing in the pile: Adam's picture. Suddenly, the
memories flooded back to her. Adam's boyish face smiling down on her while
they danced in the moonlight. The Kiss. Him going out with Iris. Her wishes
for Adam to be true to his statement that he "More than liked her". Her
fury at Iris for going out with Adam when she knew perfectly well she liked
him. Her anger at God for what had happened. Her guilt for being mad at
God.
Suddenly, a hand wiped the lone tear from her face. She whipped around to see cute guy God.
"Hey," she said quietly.
"Joan, I want you to memorize a verse."
"Which one is it?" she said, slightly frustrated.
"For there is hope for a tree, When it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And its shoots will not fail." he said, clearly and quietly
She rubbed her temples," What book is it from?"
"Job....14:7, if you'd like to know."
"Why do you want me to memorize to it? I'm not in Sunday school or anything." She smiled weakly.
"It'll help when you talk to Adam." And with that He disappeared.
"What? When will I talk to him?!" she yelled
Luke walked into the room and raised his eyebrows.
"Oh. That was nothing.... Just a daydream.", she said quickly. She put on a fake smile.
Luke looked at her doubtfully.
He picked up a few boxes," Oh, well, come on Joan, we have to go soon." He left the room.
She yelled after him," Alright, I'll be right there."
She picked up Adam's picture and silently, softly kissed it. She suddenly felt silly and stuffed it in her box and carried the rest of the boxes downstairs.
Note: I'll start my next chapter once I get five reviews. Yes, I know it's short
