Note: Um, so I don't know anything about poetry and have never written a poem in my life that a teacher or professor didn't assign but… I saw a quote posted on a book forum and it spoke to something inside of me. I was going to use it for a story but no matter how I wrestled and played with it and just tried to shove it in, the damn thing wouldn't cooperate so I had to throw in the towel and try to do it the way I wanted it to be read. So here it is, my first attempt at a poem outside of class. I tackled it head-on with fangs bared and claws out (only way to do a poem, I tell ya), and the final product may make you cry—and not for any good reason so I apologize in advance if that happens—but I'm actually kind of happy with it. As the summary suggests, this piece is about the first time Cloud and Aeris met.
The lines that inspired me and that I lifted from follow at the end. =)
Love Awakening
Somewhere,
between
this moment and the next,
this vast space of bleak tomorrows,
enters golden sunshine,
fate,
ever generous,
ever twisted,
smiles
a passing of glances,
eyes locking,
blue with green,
a petal drops, scattering
unnoticed to the ground,
my breath
stolen
worlds crash, tumbling,
crumbling
all around,
time falters, screeching,
skidding to a halt,
nothing
but
silence—
destiny beckons
stripped, of all
artifices,
down, to
the bare bones,
down, to
the bare essentials,
down, to
you and me
somewhere,
between
crimson skies and plates of steel,
metal wings soar, scaling,
taking to the air,
high, above
two souls meeting,
I stand
falling
a cricket's call,
a swallow's song,
the cry
of a newborn babe,
ushering
in
a new day,
an awakening
a brush
of hands,
soft, as a
whisper,
almost, not quite,
a kiss
between strangers
a word, cast
adrift on the wind,
light,
so light,
so soundless,
louder
than a sonic boom
in this heart
somewhere,
between
this breath and the next,
this world and the next,
your touch, yet
to come,
my life
has begun.
—Sometime between the time you say hello and the time you'll say goodbye I will understand why I live. ~Anon.
PS Just in case it wasn't clear, this was from Aeris' point of view.
