Booth is sitting alone at the table, Bones having just gotten up to go to the bathroom, which gives Marianne the perfect time to go talk to her son. Marianne walks up and sits in the chair Bones has recently vacated.
"Seeley, I wanted to say thank you, for coming today and for giving me a chance."
Booth nods and gives a sad smile to his mom.
"I know I was a horrible mother to you and Jared. I also know I didn't deserve you coming today. I told you that I was going to forgive myself for what I did to you, but the truth is, a mother could never forgive herself for walking out on her sons' lives. I have thought about you and your brother every day since I left, and on many occasions I've been so close to contacting you, but then I would stop myself. I feared that you wouldn't remember me or you would be too angry with me to even talk to me." Marianne's voice is shaky and she is close to tears.
Booth takes hold of his mom's hand and says, "Mom, you will always be my mother, no matter what. It may take awhile for me to forgive you for what you did, but I'm willing to try. I know that forgiving you will not erase the past, but it will give us hope for the future." He squeezes his mom's hand tighter and then leans forward and gives her a hug.
"Seeley, you have no idea how much that means to me."
Reggie interrupts the two of them and asks Marianne to dance.
"Actually, Reggie, I think I'm going to dance this next one with my son."
"All right," Reggie says, and walks off to talk to his kids.
Marianne stands up and holds out her hand for Booth to take. Booth takes her hand, stands up, and walks her over to the dance floor. She places her hand on his shoulder and he places his hand on her waist. He grasps her right hand in his left and as if by fate the song changes to a slower, more relatable song. They begin to dance and even though neither of them know it, they both dance beautifully to it.
Booth slowly twirls her and then brings her back close to him. Marianne lays her head on his shoulder and says quietly, "Thank you for coming back to me today."
"No mom, thank you for coming to talk to me for the first time in a long time. I needed it."
"This song is right. There is something good in this world; I just had to find you. Never forget that I love you, Seeley."
"I'll try not to, mom."
They continue dancing, but are silent for the rest of the song. When the song finishes, Booth kisses his mom on the cheek and tightly hugs her. He walks his mom over to Reggie but before he can walk away to go sit back down, his mom catches his hand and says, "Temperance is an amazing woman, don't lose her."
"I won't." He squeezes his mom's hand, releases it, and walks back to the table he had been sitting at.
"What was that about, Booth?" Bones asks, having only seen Marianne grab Booth's hand when he was about to head back to the table.
"Oh, nothing," Booth says with a smile.
