chapter 1: Shine on you crazy diamond
It was 5 o' clock in the morning.
The sounds of Kathy Heart swearing and the smell of burnt toast filled the air.
This knocked Maya out of her daydream.
Maya has been trying to avoid sleeping.
Every night she had a dream.
The same dream.
A dream about her.
This dream would fill her up with mixed emotion
It was normal to dream about your best friend.
But Maya was unsure about if the things they were doing in the dream were normal.
She heard the door slam.
Maya's mom had gone to work without saying goodbye to her... again.
She went to the kitchen to have what was left of the coffee in the pot.
Maya has her coffee black with just a little bit of brown sugar in it.
She went back to her room.
She pulled out from under her bed a make up bag.
She unzipped the bag and pulled out a cigarette.
A cigarette which she took from her mom's pack.
Something she has done many times.
She knows it's bad for her but it's the only thing that chills her out.
She has been on edge for some time now.
She had been failing at school.
Things were not good with her and her mom
Her lack of sleep.
But what got to her most was Riley.
Her best friend was always the thing in her life that anchored her down.
Without her, Maya does not know where she would be.
For that Maya was so happy that she had her in her life.
She had always loved her but now she was unsure what kind of love that was.
She had always loved her sweet and kind heart.
But now her thoughts and dreams were about her long brown beautiful hair that she always wanted to run her fingers though , her deep eyes that she could look into for forever, her full and kissable lips, her flawless skin that make feel theirs electric running though her heart when she holds her hand.
This always gave Maya funny feeling.
This funny feelings became intestine when Maya was around her.
Maya was finding it hard to control herself around Riley.
From the times she had feelings of lust that made her just want to push Riley up against the lockers and kiss her forever.
It's feelings like that which is the reason she does not have sleepovers at her house.
From the times she had feelings of anger when she seen Riley look at Lucas and just wanted to rip him apart.
She wanted that look, she needed that look.
Maya looked at the clock, she had to start getting ready for school.
She took one last drag of her cigarette and last drink of her coffee.
She went to the bathroom, got undressed and put the radio on.
It was tuned in to a classic rock station.
Maya loves classic rock.
The song that was playing was 'shine on you crazy diamond' by Pink Floyd.
"It had to be this song, this fucking song." Maya said under her breathe.
Maya had a flashback to a time Riley stayed at Maya's place.
Maya had woken up to the sound of this song coming out the radio.
She saw Riley sitting on the ledge with the sun shining on her.
Maya thought she looked like a beautiful and precious diamond that had to be looked after and protected at all costs.
At first Maya just brushed this off as feelings of friendship but after much thoughts and many dreams, Maya knew this.
Maya heart was in love with Riley Mathews.
