I heard Den barking, heading to the door. His paw made a sound every time it touched the wooden floor. I was working on an automail for a little boy that had lost his right arm in an accident. This little boy was twelve years old and he was very eager to get his new arm and go back to school. I couldn't help to remember the first arm I made for Ed six years ago. The one I made back then, was very similar to the one I was making for the little boy.
It had been five months since I last saw Ed. Two months ago, an officer came to our house to inform us that Ed was missing. I couldn't believe it, Ed couldn't be missing. Not him. He also mentioned Alphonse whereabouts were also unknown. That couldn't be true. There was something telling me that they were still alive somewhere. I knew that their hearts were still beating strong somewhere out there, and that they would come back home safe and sound.
I followed Den outside as he was frenetically barking and waving his tail. I opened the front door and I saw the person who I was longing to see for so many months. He was standing at the bottom of the stairs, facing the house. His blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail, just like he always had it. He was wearing a shirt with a brown jacket and in his arm he was carrying his red cape. It was Ed. I ran to him, I almost tripped down the stairs but I managed not to. As soon as I reached him, I wrapped my arms around his neck, I closed my eyes and I kissed him. I let excitement take over me, I hadn't seen him in a long time, tears were falling from my eyes, I wasn't thinking. I knew he wasn't expecting it either because I felt his lips freeze of surprise. After a little while, he put his arms around my waist and he started kissing me back. I felt like everything around us was gone, it was just him and me standing there in the middle of nothing.
After we kissed, I could see Ed blushing. I could also feel my own cheeks burning. He just smiled in a funny way and he started scratching the back of his head with his free hand.
"I'm home" he said.
"I'm so happy you're back! I knew I would see you again." I answered back.
"Winry I'm sorry for always making you worry. This is a safe country now, we won't make you worry anymore". he said with a smile.
"Ed, where is Alphonse? He's not with you?" I looked behind him to see if he had come with somebody else. They were always together but Al wasn't there, I got worried again.
"Alphonse is fine, he is in the Hospital. He is getting better". Said Ed. I felt relieved, but then I thought that if Alphonse was in the hospital that only meant that... Then Ed knew what I was thinking and before I could say anything, he said "Yes, he has his body back." There were no words I could use to explain how happy I felt at that moment, He told me that in order to get Al's body back, Ed had to choose between getting only either his right arm or his left leg back. He decided to get his leg back. Even though that was the only thing he got back, I knew that he was very happy that he was able to get Alphonse's body back.
Ed said that Alphonse had to be in the hospital because of his weight. He was extremely underweight, and it was better for him if he stayed there under observation. Ed wanted to wait for him to go together back to Resembol, but Alphonse insisted that he should come see us first so that we would not be worried anymore. I always liked that considerate side of Alphonse.
"Come in! Obachan will be happy to see you!" I grabbed his hand and we went inside the house. His hand was so warm. I could go through anything in the world except having him away for so long and not knowing nothing about him again.
I love him. I don't know if he loves me back, but I only want happiness for him. As we walked through the door holding hands, it marked the start of a new beginning.
