This is a short one-shot about something Lust said in episode 22.

"I want to become human, nothing more."
To be human. That's all they really ever wanted. Nothing more. Nothing less. What was so wrong with that? Sure, they never went about it the right way, but did they ever really deserve what came to them?
A homunculus. The result of a failed human transmutation. The personification of a person's sins. But there was more to them than that. Perhaps they weren't so much a failed transmutation as they were an incomplete transmutation. The unfinished product. They had a body that resembled who it was meant to resemble. They had hearts. They had memories. They had strengths and weaknesses. All they lacked was the soul. But they were still considered inhuman.
Alphonse Elric. He was a suit of armor. He was also a result of human transmutation. He didn't resemble his original self. He didn't have a heart, at least physically. He had his memories still, along with strengths and weaknesses. And…he had his soul. He was considered human even without a physical body.
Does the soul really make the human? Is it really as simple as that? If Alphonse's blood seal was destroyed, many would be sad. Many would weep. No one wept for the homunculi. Not even Edward wept at the destruction of the homunculus that carried the face of his own mother. But who's to say whether it was or wasn't his mother? No one until the secrets of human transmutation are found.
Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Pride, Sloth.
The seven sins of alchemists.
