Author's Note: This chapter was written in a hurry, so as to give you guys something a little more substantial than just the prologue, so please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes this chapter. I am looking for a few good critiques on both this chapter and the prologue. Enjoy!

Location: Hyrule Castle

Year: 2230 AP (After Plauge) Nighttime

King Sparkles II, the Mobslayer, High Counselor of the Order of Notch, Defender of the Triforce, ruler over all the land of Hyrule, and descendant of King Hyrule I, gazed out across the land he ruled. The wind ruffled his thick hair, and his gray-blue eyes scanned the horizon. It was a wonderful and prosperous land, but like everywhere else, it was not safe at night.

Beyond the walls of the city, he thought he could see hundreds of glowing pinpoints nestled among the grass of the plains of Hyrule, each moving slightly. He strained his ears, trying to hear a sound that he was sure would be there if he listened hard enough. And sure enough after a minute of silence, he thought he could pick up the sound of faint moans and the clanking of bones. It was a common sound at night, but he still wasn't used to it. The sounds were abominations; not natural, and no matter how hard he tried to convince himself otherwise, it just didn't feel right.

He knew what they were; it was the sole reason why the walls had been built around the entire town of Hyrule in the first place. They were the mobs: the monsters in the dark… And every night since the creation of Hyrule, the monsters crept from their lairs to hunt for their favorite food: mortals. Thus, no one was allowed beyond the gates after dark, lest they should suffer a dreary fate and join the ranks of the Zombies and Skeletons.

He studied the number of pinpricks within his sight. From the amount he could make out, it seemed as though there were a lot of them out tonight. More than usual. That wasn't a good sign; If there was enough of them, there was a chance that they would organize and make an attempt to break through the gates. It was because of these creatures and the attacks that his line had sworn an oath upon the Triforce itself to protect and serve the citizens of Hyrule until their dying breath. It was ingrained in his blood, and he would not break that oath… even if his very life depended on it.

Why are you thinking about such gloomy things this night? The king chastised himself, You should be happy! Don't let your thoughts be clouded by the gloomy thoughts of another day; after all something wonderful is happening. Cheer up, you miserable creeper! Nothing will go wrong, tonight.

The sudden sound of footsteps behind him and the opening of the door brought the king back to reality. Startled, he turned around to see Luthwin, one of his most trusted guards, and a close friend of his, standing in the doorway, panting from the exertion of running in chain-mail.

"Sire!" He said, "Come…"

A feeling of anxiety began to fill his stomach, and all thoughts fled from his mind.

"Is she…?"

"She's fine, my king," His friend assured him hurriedly, "A little weak perhaps, but that is to be expected."

The anxiety lessened, but didn't completely vanish.

"She's…she's delivered?" He asked, astonished.

"Yes, sire."

"A boy?"

"I wouldn't want to spoil it for you, my king."

Then the significance of what had just happened hit him. With a silent shout for joy, the king darted to the door, and bolted down the hallway. Nine months, he had been waiting, but now it was official: He was not only a king, but a father as well!

Within a few moments he was at the door to his bedroom, and gazing down at his tired wife who held a blanket wrapped bundle. Her green eyes and her face were worn from the hours spent in labor, but never the less, she smiled at him.

"My king," She said, raising the bundle, "I present you with your first born child."

With trembling hands, King Sparkles gently took the bundle and lifted the cover to reveal the miracle that had just entered into his life.

I have a daughter! A beautiful baby girl! He thought, staring deep into into her unwavering emerald eyes. They bespoke of an intelligence uncommon among mortals. Her face was framed by blondish-brown curls, and curiously, her ears were slightly pointed.

Almost solemnly, the newborn princess lifted her right hand to his face and gently curled a finger around his short beard, and the king thought he briefly saw a curious mark upon the back of her right hand.

Yes, he thought, I am a blessed man. To be here with my family, this night.

"Hail, little Zelda. I greet you on this happy night. May your life be forever blessed, and may your reign be strong and prosperous."

"All hail the Princess Zelda," Luthwin said solemnly, "Heir to the throne of Hyrule."

Author's note: ...And thus the story truly begins... What will become of the Princess?

Author's note #2: Just fixed a couple of errors that I noticed.
