Staring down into the desert, Deidara paused. There was nothing here but the miles and miles of sand in front of him-nothing to mark his death, not even a body.

He was gone forever. Forever. Deidara had never believed in "forever" so strongly before. This wasn't supposed to of happen. Everything was supposed to be only ephemeral, wasn't it? Everything except for death.

He didn't even have a chance to say goodbye. Just before that battle, he had just left. Everything would just turn out OK, wouldn't it?

But just a little bit, Deidara had wanted him to die, just so he could shut up from his idiotic banter forever. But now what? There wouldn't be anyone to talk about art with anymore, no matter how stupid.

He had been the first person he had met that realized how important art was. The only one who cared, who didn't ridicule him. And it went beyond art, on how the rest of the world considered them freaks, too.

Maybe that was the only reason he had stayed in Akatsuki. No matter how much Deidara hated being part of the organization, he had always made himself stay because…

He wanted to see him smile, and to talk to him, and to know, to know, what it was like to know someone.

As Deidara looked down, he saw a glint of metal glittering through the sand. Picking it up, he clutched it to his heart.

"Thank you, Sasori."

(When I'm born to myself one day, I'll find you again.)
