"James hurry up and get the tree down!" That's my partner, Jean, she loves Christmas and she's currently got me in her attic bringing the tree and decorations down. I tried to make her wait but seeing as it's 7am on the 1st December, I don't think it worked. She's already told me that we're decorating it so it doesn't seem like I can get out of it, if I wasn't so in love with her and finding her festive excitement so adorable, then I might be finding the fact that she already has a colour scheme sorted a bit weird.
"Coming."
I'm back down the stairs with the tree and boxes that she requested and I'm pretty sure that in the time that I was in the attic that she's rearranged the living room.
"Where do you want the tree?" Jean asks me and looks confused as I burst out laughing. "What?"
"Only you are so bothered about a tree. You pick where it goes."
"Yeah but it's not just me in this house this year so you get a say."
"Fine, over there in the window so that everyone can see it."
"Good choice."
"Okay lights on first then baubauls and tinsel last." I knew she was bossy as I have to work with her but if I'd known she'd be worse over a Christmas tree then I may have stayed in the attic.
"Don't look at me like that James, it has to look nice especially if it's in the window! A tree that's nicely decorated is the first sign of Christmas!"
"I thought that was the coke advert." I know I'm pushing it now but she's in too good a mood to care.
"No it's the tree!" The lights are now on and her excitement it starting to become contagious as we both pick from the silver and purple decorations in front of us.
The tree's done now and I have to say it's the best looking Christmas tree I've ever seen and now I cant wait until next Christmas and a whole lifetime of Christmas' where I get to share this excitement with her.
