A white and beige minivan parked in front of the school with a faint squeak. From inside ran out a girl with long dark-brown hair. She looked around the school, confused, until she saw a familiar face through her crooked glasses.

'First impression is always important. Run! There's only about thirty seconds left before I'm officially late! Oh my legs, how many times have you saved me? Please save me once more!'

It's the first day of band camp, and first day at this high school, and I was running late.

People seemed to be just chatting away because apparently, I wasn't the only one late.

"Hi Jane! Long time no see. How was your summer?" Anne asked.

She was a flute player who would always challenge people who were in higher chairs. Oh yeah, I had the first chair in the middle school right across from here.

"My summer (small breath) was boring...(big breath)but busy as usual. (Bigger breath) How was yours?" I foundered through my words, trying to get a hold of my breath.

While Anne was trying to figure out what she did during the summer, I looked at my watch: It was two seconds before being officially late. 'Whew. That didn't go so bad.'

I looked around to see how many of last year's band members were back. See the girl flirting over there? That's Jenny, the flirtacious one. Jenny used to be first chair back in middle school until I took it away from her.

'Now, who was I talking to? Oh yeah, Anne.' I looked back at her.

"Do you remember what you did now?" "I think so, but I only remember this road trip I went on. It was a lot of fun." Anne said as she smiled. Her smile got bigger and bigger each second. Someone tapped my shoulder and I jumped, then slowly turned around. I saw a smiling face, but it was higher up than I remembered it. It was Jim, my old crush.
